Comments (9)A word to the wiser regarding sofas.....think about it. How often do you actually see a sofa completely filled with people? You don't. People want more personal space. You may get one or two people to sit together on the sofa comfortably. Better to have a love seat and a couple of chairs. The love seat will appear large in a room this size. I believe the article you read may be referring to large pieces of storage furniture. Like using a single armoire instead of a few smaller pieces to allow for more space to walk yet retain maximum storage. The extra walking space is the part that makes the room feel larger. Hope that helps....See MorePOLL: Lounge, living room, sitting room or front room?

I still say front room, but mainly to describe the location of say my book or glasses if I'm am asking somebody to fetch them for me. It makes for a quicker find :)...See MoreNew colour theme for small living room
Comments (13)Hi linda. What colours do you like as the sofa is neutral so you can really choose. I think I'd go for a warmer neutral on the ŵall. See attached or Little Greene have a great range http://www.farrow-ball.com/yellow-based-neutrals/content/fcp-content I'm not sure how bumpy the ŵalls are but could you try lining paper? The high the grade the more it should cover I think. I'd paint the shelves in the ŵall colour. Is the wallpaper new or are you redoing? If it's not new perhaps a modern geometric paper? Assuming you like green why not add lighter Browns, warm whites and greens for cushions, throw etc? I'd also add a round mirror over the fire and perhaps paint the surround, if you went for a green accent something like light bronze greene by little greene may work then add some warm metallic accessories (if you like mixing metals!) Perhaps a sisal for the floor to add texture. They are very hardwearing but check the maintenance to see if it is for you. I'd move the coffee table in front of the sofa. Do also add cushions to the chairs. Perhaps try a more classic style arc lamp behind the chair? Roman blinds should work well. How big is the cabinet under the shelves? Just wondering if the tv could sit on that...See MoreIs it strange to have the dining room at front of house by front door?
Comments (7)Hi Sharon Laughlin, I would usually like to actually see the space and front window to be able to answer 100% ...but I can tell I have proposed this layout on several similar properties layout packages as it is a very good use of space and the times you use the space actually means it isn't too bad with 'on lookers' or lighting to have it this way round. Choosing the right window dressing can help with any concerns but having a great and usable space inside (where you live) is vital. I would be happy to take a quick look and offer an opinion (free of charge) if you wanted to email me your plan and a picture of the room (gina.everett@createperfect.co.uk). I know it seems like a head ache now.. but it will be worth the additional consideration time in the long run rather than just settling for something because it is the 'norm'. All the best, Gina...See More
