Office Garden...

Hi,
Can you tell me where you sourced the wooden arches from please, they look fantastic and would be perfect for a project I am working on at home...

These were made up bespoke by a specialist joinery company for this project. I'm afraid that I don't have any details to hand to pass on. Good luck with your project, I hope that all goes well for you.

Having had time to 'play' on the floor planner, I came to realise that gaining the two things that you would like the most, storage and an extra loo, were not that easy. If you go with my original idea of moving the entrance it does make for a much larger master bedroom ( gaining storage ) Going in to the Workshop from the house leads to more storage and the possibility of a guest room, which you also wanted. I think the only way to gain a lot of space and storage is to build the porch and it makes sense that if you were going to do that, you'd make it large enough for plenty of storage for the coats / shoes etc. At the same time ( as it would be cheaper and easier ) you would also build a utility room on the same patch as the porch at the rear of the kitchen. Instantly gaining huge amounts of storage. I know that you didn't want to extend, however, the plan allows for a re-jig without the porch or utility and for these to be added if you re-consider. I don't think the layout lends itself readily to a staircase in to the loft. You could put a staircase at the bottom end of the lounge, however, i honestly think the money would be better spent on a porch and utility. Bedroom areal blown up Kitchen / porch / utility blown up A concept planner is a must with this type of project. They take on board what you want, have a good old re-jig as above and come up with various ideas. They can then blow them up in 3d and give you a 'virtual ' walk about, so that you can visualise more easily what it will look like. I've done everything 'roughly' to scale and used full sized objects for the rooms, so you get a rough idea! You do need to start with a budget as Jonathan says, otherwise you can have all the grand plans in the world, but if the money isn't there, you need to taper the ideas.

Hi Niamh, What a delightful little space! In my opinion, the colour you're leaning towards won't make it feel small, as long as your furniture isn't too big for the space and accessories are pared back it'll make it feel like a cosy nest. Another colour to consider might be a sage green. I'm a big fan of connecting the outside to the inside, especially in garden rooms and spaces that open out onto gardens. Breakfast Room Green by Farrow & Ball is a great colour (see attached pic) and it also makes a great backdrop to houseplants, which will thrive in your South-facing space. Hannah

Yes indeed plants will do it but be sure they don’t have the potential to grow so tall they block the view! In the main I would keep the gravel but put a paved patio and perhaps staggered slabs set in the gravel for a path leading to the patio. Gravel is a great medium to grow plants in. There are lots of plants that love it and will happily set seeds creating new plants. Just dig a decent sized hole and fill with good soil and compost before you plant (NOT peat! We need that to stay in the ground to combat global warming). For inspiration check out Beth Chatto’s book about her gravel garden. She turned a car park into an amazing low maintenance garden.

Hello Joanne, I would love to have a chat about the style you like and how you envision this patio. The project looks very interesting. Please find attached some images with existing projects that may help you decide which line to follow. I think the bar design may affect the other elements from your propsal. There are 3 proposals. One is neutral (gray, black and brown), another more Mediterranean style with lots of white and bright colors and the third is about using intense colours and bringing the nature inside giving lots of character to the proposal.
