I have worked on these type of properties for over 9 years and I always provide the same advice to a client. You will need to consider how you want to use the space/the environment that you want to create in order to determine where you will place the furniture. Key elements such as how you intend to travel through the property, what is practical for you, how your family spend their time at home etc. will all dictate the interior configuration. For example, some of my clients would look to create a formal reception room at the front of the property, introducing a door from the hallway. They would then utilise the second reception room as a play/TV area, library, piano space or even insert the kitchen within this zone and create a very large open plan dining/entertainment space (large sofa/TV area) at the rear, directly connected to the garden. As you can see there are so many points to consider. Have you thought about appointing a team to assist you with the space planning/visualising how it could look?...See MoreUrgent colour advice: open plan living room-kitchen required, please!

I can tell you however, having used Dusted Moss 2 & 3 on many occasions, that it is a lot more green than it looks on your chart above, which looks grey. It has grey tones, but as the name suggests it is a green. Dulux is for sure, lovely paint,. The colour charts however, aren't so accurate and the paint mixing compared to the colour cards is also not that accurate. I always suggest to people to go get colour cards and testers and paint at least an A4 piece of paper with 2 or 3 coats. Move the paper around as the paint changes with the light in differing positions. Probably not what you want to hear, but you can't choose paint from a computer screen and hope for any accuracy at all. I now prefer Valspar ( B&Q ), used to be Crown. The colour matching is phenomenal. The accuracy to the cards is spot on, and the paint is good. I used to be a Dulux everything fan................but since discovering Valspar I have been converted....See Morekitchen layout/ open plan advice

I hadn’t noticed the existing utility, referring to my comment about squaring off the dining room, could a small utility be popped into that corridor area? I can’t get an idea of the size or whether it would be possible but would mean you’ve got a utility off the kitchen. I wouldn’t remove the wall between existing kitchen and dining room if you’re removing the other one. You could have it as a formal sitting room, a kids playroom, a cinema room, an additional guest bedroom? Options are endless but I’m sure you’ll find a way to make it more useable than a dining room! If you do decide to do double doors into the existing family room I’d do glazed so you can see straight through into the garden when you enter the house....See Moreadvice on open plan kitchen/dinner and small living area layout
