Paint colour help?

1980's stucco and wood trim. I need to bring the exterior into this century, thinking grey with dark grey trim, maybe a wood (look) garage door, but open to any and all ideas!

Your roof looks brown, is that right? If so, gray paint might be a problem.

I think I like a navy for your house and with your stone. Those corner boards should not have been painted the trim color, so I suggest you paint them the base color when you repaint. A cream trim around windows and door is all that's needed.

I think a navy paint and wood look doors can looks very nice, here. Might check into black garage/carriage door hardware and larger lamps for either side, too

Also, you might consider trimming back those shrubs in front of your entryway. Your door is not visible.

Wow, I had to make a cup of tea for this one. Orange and red are your two main colours here (copper, wood, worktops and red items) and yes, green or blue/green is the complementary, but there are a million options and they don't need to be saturated. At the moment the red and green are fighting for attention so the new wall colour needs to be 'quieter'. If you want to show the true beauty of the copper, then I would avoid strong colours and go for something moody. I would paint most of the walls a cool pale neutral and then go for one wall in a punchy edgy colour that complements the red without having a fist fight with it. It could be a cool neutral with Mouses Back (which looks fabulous with red). My favourite edgy colour is Little Greene 'Light Bronze Green" 123 which I have in my kitchen with Skimming Stone - see below (and image 2 with red picture). Does any of that make sense?

We have a room in Setting Plaster, it’s a N facing room and I found that colour looks like a warm neutral in N facing but sickly peach in S facing. Conversely we have a S facing room in Calamine, this looks too sugary pink and almost blue toned in N facing but warms up nicely in S facing. So my advice would be to go less peach and more pink with your choices as you are S facing. As it happens Tani - I have an identical layout to yours, and am also pondering what to paint my white sofa wall! It does look a bit blank and stark in white. I’m going to buy a terracotta/rust/tan sofa but need a colour to go behind it. And some stuff for on the wall. Your plants have inspired me to get some thank you!

@Carolina I like the colours in the photo you've shared, they look more neutral than grey which is what I want. Do you know what colours they might be? To give you more of an idea of the space this photo is taken from the kitchen end of the room facing away from the kitchen and I've added Amitco Blonde Oak added using their clever room visualiser (we want a wood effect LVT which brings warmth to the room) . You can see we do have the dark framed doors (anthracite grey) which might help tie in a dark island, although they are some distance away. Was also thinking of going dark blinds in the bay window, such as these double roller in iron grey. But maybe better going for Navy if we went with @Juliet Docherty's suggestion of Basalt 221 We're having Quartz worktops and wanted to keep it white with a subtle vein, so something like this. This was my attempt at a mood board which I put together many months ago when starting the project.

I painted my hall Pigeon and it is far too dark for my dingy hall. Wish I had gone lighter. I’ve got Cromarty in my living room and it is lovely and I should have used it in the hall too. So I agree with minnie101! Here it is in my room.

I totally agree about the corner boards though, it looks so weird!

The bushes in front start of small every year but get massive! It's impossible to keep them down. That being said, we keep our front door open a lot, and I don't mind the privacy.

Hi Rose, I agree with the earlier comments that you should not paint the vertical trim different than the main body color. I think going with a medium to dark gray or gray-blue would look sharp. I would also consider going a shade or shade and a half darker than the main color for the "foundation" which looks to be brick that is the lower 4 feet. The part I can see on either side of the garage door.

Painting the garage door the same color as the main body or a the same as the foundation would also make it not stand out so much. Right now my eye is initially drawn to the garage door making it the focal point.

I would paint the overhang and gutters and window trim more of an off white. Right now they look to be bright white which will be a stark contrast (too much so IMO) from a dark shade of body. Hope that helps.

(I agree about getting rid of or significantly trimming the large bushes in front of front door). They hide the house and make it look off balance. Good luck and have fun with your project.
