pale grey kitchen, white worktops - wall colours ??

I'm in the process of having a kitchen installed, light grey shaker style units and white quartz worktops with tiny mirror chip, matching upstands, splashback. Just trying to decide on colour to paint walls.

There's actually only a small amount of wall space between base and wall units on three sides of the kitchen and a larger space on the back wall with a breakfast bar.

I want to maintain a light an airy feel as kitchen only gets sun in the afternoon. I was thinking of matching the colour of the units or slightly lighter shade but not sure if I should go slightly darker to contrast the white tops. I'm not into bold contrast colours ! Urgent advice appreciated as I have to buy paint this weekend !!

Go with a light grey. The white sparkle tops should stand out anyway.

I like white, or slightly off white. Yours sounds like mine, I wanted light and airy too. I wanted the grey of the units to stand out not blend into the wall

Hi guys, Thanks both for the comments - I should have been clearer - the cornice (and above the picture rail) are already painted in slaked lime... they were a very big job and am definitely not doing them again - I used the same colour as the walls and ceiling as whilst they're lovely, they have some areas where they're not in great condition so needed them to blend in slightly (they've had quite a bit of repair work etc!). The grey we've chosen for the kitchen (though not painted yet so up for debate!) is 'dash of soot' with the 'dock blue' on the island. I think painting the doors and skirting could look good painted in the same blue... but I'm not sure I could do the windows as well - we're getting into seriously dark territory then!! Minnie - I love that picture - and it shows how the pale and the blue could look lovely together on a wall! We're definitely going brass for handles and knobs so will check out buster and punch - thanks for the tip! And it's interesting what you say about the kitchen cabinet colours AJ.... the indigo blue would be on the island - with the wall cupboards (which dont have a gap for the worktop - but the top cabinets are set back a little showing an oak worktop - with appliance garage etc) going up very tall - to 255cm.... we thought having these a paler colour would stop them closing in on the room - and I'm not sure we're keen on a paler blue - but nor did we want a cream/beige - like a darker version of the slaked lime might look... It's so tricky to know if we're doing the right thing! And are doing the work ourselves so aren't keen on having to do too much more of the painting than we need to! Cheers Greg

HI Lorraine , I like the sound of your kitchen colours! Without seeing the tones in a picture its difficult to determine which shades you have chosen but I can visualise both white and grey in a printed or decorated tile. By choosing a decorated tile you can combine the colour of your cabinets and your work surface beautifully. There are so many beautiful tiles out there..here are some lovely examples..im not sure what your style is but here a few options ... Good luck with it! hope it turns out well!

Yes Compac offer Glace (matte), Polished, Concrete (Matte & slightly textured but only available in the Concrete collection), Ovo (Honed) & Pergamo (Brush & Hammered). The Ovo and Pergamo are special order and aren't available on all colours so this is something you would have to check if you see a colour you like. Caesarstone have 3 finish choices: Polished, Honed (Matte) and Viento (textured). Again you would have to check the chosen colour with Caesarstone to see if its available in the finish you like. Hope this helps.

How about white with some veining through it or a speckled white? Dark might be quite dramatic but depends on the light you have in the room. If you already have quite a lot of grey, I think too dark could make it look dull.

Thank you Sophie. Your kitchen is lovely and is exactly the look Im aiming for. I'm thinking of something like F&B strong white for the walls. Do you recall the colour you used ?

My kitchen is a light grey shaker with F&B strong white walls (colour matched to Johnson’s paint).
