Plantation Shutters in the bay

I am impressed with the low profile the plantation shutters have in the bay window. Are these shutters made from light weight wood? And who made these? These are perfect for my bedroom bay window as well.

Thank you, I'm so pleased you like them. They are from a company in South-West London, called Plantation shutters - these are mdf I think, though not 100% as this project was a couple of years ago. I hope that helps. Laura

We had them installed on all the front facing windows, so that was 3 x large windows in MDF and 2 x smaller (but not tiny) bathroom windows which are in some kind of upvc due to the location. They all look the same though, colour, slat size etc. We used Hillary's in the end, 10 weeks lead time as they come on a slow boat from China, and installed in less than half a day. The total price was just under £2k (they had a 1/2 price sale on and I was very close to the financial year year end when I ordered so think that's why I got such a bargain price) My other alternative was to have made to measure roman blinds, which weren't going to solve our privacy issues, and I'd worked out they would have cost the same. I would recommend Hillary's, quick and easy to order, no problems. (p.s, they are really easy to clean, much easier than vertical blinds)

Hi Catherine, You have a lovely open plan kitchen and lounge, but as you say, it lacks punch and interest. Since you're stuck with the stainless steel kitchen for the time being, you need to work with it and have some fun. A symmetrical arrangement of stainless steel shelves either side of the splash back for the cooker would allow you to put up interesting bottles, plants, china, etc. What about painting this wall a bright colour like Seville Orange from Crown and the other walls in natural white. You could also paint the base of the island in the Seville Orange. In the seating area, use the orange colour and some others like plum or blue-grey in fabric patterns, have cushions made up for the seating area. Also an area rug large enough for the front feet of your sofas and the coffee table to sit on with colour would brighten up this area. It's unfortunate that the TV is blocking a French window. Can it be moved somewhere else, perhaps the bay if the bottom shutters are never opened? Hi, take a look at these photos which show similar rooms to yours. It appears that your windows are close to the street so you may want to consider bottom up blinds to give you privacy without blocking the light (see below). These wood venetian blinds we installed show how you can control the light and your privacy too. They look similar to shutters, but take up less space, allow more light in and cost much less! Realised I never updated this thread! After a great deal of indecision I was inspired by an instagram post I saw where someone had used a white aluminium curtain track which you could bend to fit to the bay. It's fairly invisible against the white window frames and has a small, shallow profile so it fit neatly into the gap available. I then used the same ikea ingert curtains as elsewhere in the house along with ikea black out liners (which FYI are more 'light reduction' than true 'blackout' :S). Only downside is that when the curtains are fully open they block a little bit of the windows to the sides but honestly I'm just happy to have something up now! It definitely makes the bedroom feel more finished and cosy too :).
