Skirting Board Height

The guide to choosing a skirting board height is really useful and not something I have heard before. My question is- do you have a similar rule of thumb for modern interiors as opposed to the more traditional style?

I think I would have to it have matching as the hall will open onto other rooms so you may be able to see the difference. If it were on different floors then I think it would be ok. However if your skirting boards are the same height in the hall then you may well get away with it! I wouldn't worry in any case if it's temporary, in the unlikely event of someone noticing just say you're getting round to doing the whole house!

I've never really heard of an alternative to skirtings except either not having them at all or tiling...the latter of which is only used when tiling the floor at the same time though

Personally I think it looks better if the skirting is removed and flooring put underneath. When replacing the skirting cut down to allow for the height of the new floor under the pipes and machine the round on to the cut edge. Looks a professional finish and the fact that someone would take the time to do it this way is always going to score points on selling. Hope this helps.

I have been faced with this many times in the past. I generally ask the client to choose the profile they prefer then take a sample to the joiners shop where they can generally produce something near identical and I wouldn't have thought you would have a problem with yours
