What to put on walls in downstairs toilet - what do you have?
Comments (15)Hi Dynamo, I'm responsible for the design in your photo and delighted you like the look of this room. You would only need a few square meters of the split mosaic tiles which are available of sheets, so not expensive for a striking feature. Also, easy to keep free of dust with a quick once over with a dust pan brush, or brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner . WC's are often overlooked but when you consider its a room you use every day and your guests use too, why not make it an enjoyable experience! An alternative and very inexpensive idea for your walls and my signature in practically every home I renovate, is installing 6mm MDF panelling with a 10mm shadow gap in between each panel, apply with Pink Gripfil adhesive. 600mm x 600mm square or horizontal panels of any height add a sense of depth and soul to boring flat, painted walls. A sheet of MDF is cheap as chips, just make sure you prime and undercoat thoroughly with a mini roller before applying eggshell finish or acrylic paint. It's not a main bathroom so not susceptible to humidity, therefore emulsion paint in a contrast shade will work well too. To see an example of panelling on a larger scale (Wenge stained Oak veneered MDF), take a look at the sitting room wall in the Chelsea Harbour apartment featured on my profile page....See MoreDownstairs redesign to include WC

If works better then not a big issue but will reduce the 90cm space between counters or make for a smaller island. - WC would also have to change shape (with stud wall moving out) but would then take up less room in utility space, although pan & sink would no longer be side-by-side can I put these back to back instead - Bigger issue is what to then do about the fridge freezer/pantry cupboard - these seem well placed to grab a drink/snack on the go without walking around the kitchen island but could also be relocated I've not doubt! If this works better for a range cooker for instance... Choices, choices, it really does feel like there ought to be a wrong/right way to all this but in any case, I'm not feeling particularly confident on the existing plan so will perceiver until we run out of time! Any suggestions, so that I can try and bring this layout to life on MagicPlan and give it a go?...See MoreDownstairs WC Yellow n Black positive affirmations ♂️
Comments (5)James it looks fantastic!! You're getting there one room at a time!! I bet it makes you smile every time you open the door and your attention to detail is brilliant. What I also think is clever is that the tiling is timeless and in the future if you feel like a change its a quick wallpaper upgrade . Well done....See MoreKitchen and downstairs remodel - ideas?
Comments (9)Thank you for the replies and sketches. Sorry for the delay in replying, we are away at the moment and where we are doesn’t have the best internet connection. I do like the sketches, however it doesn’t really fit with the future plans of using the area as a second small sitting room in the future. Also, whilst I know it is definitely the trend to have large focal kitchens, I’m not sure we want to go any bigger, plus we wouldn’t want to access through the current lounge as that wouldn’t really work with where our TV cabinet and sofa currently are. I think we are wanting to keep all the walls as per our current plan, but just wondering if there are any changes we can make keeping this in mind? If not, we are going to proceed with the above. In terms of colour, as ours is smaller than the inspiration image, we want to slightly reduce the number of colours. The main units and unit surround the fridge will be light blue, with the small island being pink. The worktops will be a dark grey sparkly quartz. The flooring will will a light grey tile effect laminate and rather than using brown wall tiles, we are opting for light grey metro/subway tiles to match in with the floor. What do people think of this? I used an app just to give an indication of how the light grey looks (obviously not an exact match)....See MoreGravel Hill Lighting
