Comments (1)We have 6 x 5 m space for our new kitchen/diner and are planning an island, though I think it could be tight for us. Can you show us a floor plan as locations of doors make a difference to how the space can be used....See MoreCan I have an island?
Comments (14)Hi Sarah, thanks! I used Homebyme - an online designer (free! just Google the name) to put all of this together. There's a feature that allows you to render your 3d plans realistic like in my image. It's a bit fiddly but so worth the time :) you can also walk around your design in first person view. The space I have is 3m out from the structural beam above and 4m wide (+ pitched ceiling with 2 skylights). I allowed 600mm depth for the cupboards along the wall. To be honest, looking at your drawing I'm not sure that a long and narrow kitchen island is the best for your narrow kitchen, otherwise it would really need to be very skinny. I'm no expert though! How about incorporating a dining space like in this picture, with tall units one side of the wall and regular units the other side of the long wall, and with patio doors at the end? This would allow more light and views from the garden. Just an idea....See Morekitchen design help needed!!! must have: island & log burner
Comments (12)Hi Hayley. I think I would use the garage as a living room - it will be such a nice space with the exposed beams, and putting a fire in here will make it amazing! So, I would make the kitchen and island similar to the below - you will then have space to have a walk in pantry or utility room (or even just other storage) behind the kitchen. If you are wanting/able to move the boiler, then this would open up more space, but would also cost a lot more. If you went with this sort of layout, there is a few ways you could configure the full height kitchen units. I think its important to have both an island/breakfast bar, and then a free standing table, as i feel the image you shared above from Wren, there is a bit of a disconnect between the kitchen and the island. Let me know if you have any further questions! :)...See MoreDaisy England
