Traditional cottage kitchen or modern?

We have a client who has bought a cottage and is completely renovating it - including an extension. The space will be totally gutted and internally, starting from scratch, with an open plan living / kitchen area. A blank canvas essentially.
The client has asked us to design the kitchen space and is undecided on a traditional cottage design or a modern contemporary style or a combination of both! We always help our clients realise their kitchen vision and will look forward to designing this one with all the options.
What would your choice be? Which style would you ask us to design for you? We'd love to hear your thoughts.

Comments (5)Have to agree with Minnie! We have quarry tiles in our kitchen in dining room. They are quiet orangey and warm in colour, so go great with a cream and most traditional country colours. If you wanted a sleek shiny modern kitchen, it would be a shame to remove them, but I am not too sure if they would work. Maybe if you had a more industrial twist to it all. They are VERY practical. Comments (3)Hi Amelia, This is a fantastic space, I love the detail and height you have in your living room! A great way to get away from the stark white walls is to paint the room in a grey tone, this will allow you to still use your existing furniture and accessories in your space. I would suggest using Grey Steel 3, which a beautiful soft grey tone. This colour will definitely be in keeping with the details of the room and most importantly your furniture. Or if you do want to stay with the neutral tones Chalk Blush 3 will be the best colour for this as this is still bright but brings a touch of warmth to the room. If you would like to give either of these colours a try you can always get some tester pots and test them out or if you have a smart phone you can download the Dulux visualizer app. This is so easy all you have to do is point your phone at the walls of your room and pick either of these colours. 4 years agoAs extensions are inherently modern there remains an argument for a contemporary kitchen. But personally I prefer the earlier idea of an inframe kitchen with a modern slab door rather than a shaker style door.
I also love that there are lots of lovely colours that are timeless too
