New house, how to make it a cosy home?
Comments (28)I love how you've kept the character alive in a tasteful eclectic mix. I think you may like a splash of colour in the bathroom by adding a canvas roman blind in a bold teal with a coordinating runner rug and some luxurious towels. A wall mounted rack for folded towels above the loo, will interrupt the monotone of the wall as may a plant or some. Also some woven floor baskets or quirky toiletpaper or magazine container to add interest....See MoreHELP! ! dark dated living room

Comments (6)In my opinion, this really depends on a few factors: - how much room you have to spare, - how important is the movie experience for you/family (visually and sound wise) - actually how much time do you spend watching movies - how immersive do you want the experience to be - how close do you want to get to what the director wanted you to see and etc.. Like in many fields, the pursuit of perfection (albeit with slight compromise) can be a never ending endeavour, costly with some sacrifice along the way. Ideally, the starting point to any dedicated cinema's should be dark walls and some level or sound treatment. For me, there is nothing like watching a good movie in a good home cinema, with popcorn and wine. I forget when the movie started and it become so immersive at times that you really go through the emotions. Ask yourself the questions above and you'll son find the answer....See MoreDark Room
Comments (4)Agreeing with Strawberry, the black storage unit and black framed pics have to go. Move the dining table slightly away from the wall, as it's just too far in the corner. Of course you'll have more room without the black unit. Maybe you could replace it with a lower level unit, creating the illusion of more space, but not black! Put a mirror over the dining table, this makes the space seem wider. I agree that an under stair storage unit would be great as hanging the coats up in the dining area is also not helping. You need things brought down to a lower level and tidied away as it's not the largest space. You also need to lighten and brighten, so think about maybe painting the table legs and chairs, adding in an accessory colour. Grey will work quite well with all the pine, greens and earth colours are greatLastly the lampshade, not fitting for a dining area. I know it's a rented property, but you can change the lampshade i'm sure, maybe the landlord would be amenable to changing the whole light fitting instead? I'm a Landlord and I always say, if you're going to put it back to how it was when you leave, it's fine! Some of the open weave lampshades are great, when you turn the light on it filters through the gaps and creates a nice cosy atmosphereHere's one i put upBasically, go for lighter, brighter, tidied away storage, and a nice accessory colour. Green and Grey both work with the carpet, which you don't even notice until you work on the picsI prefer the grey / beige to go with the stair carpet....See MoreDulux Amazing Space
