What are the latest kitchen trends?

Have gloss kitchens had their day? Am in the planning stage and find myself drawn to the shaker style with wooden worktops but would not entertain wooden worktop despite how gorgeous they are. Any kitchen designers out there who go to trade shows, what is on trend now or is it best to actually go for a traditional wooden kitchen i.e oak or similar?

You know, you hit the nail on the head. I was slightly miffed when I mentioned that I was considering a glossy kitchen and was told they were on there way out. Yet kitchen designers told me they are still going strong at the trade fairs.

The trouble is - if anyone actually comes out and says ‘XYZ is soooo last year ‘ it offends everyone who just bought XYZ ...

My advice is buy a product that you like and that suits your home and don’t worry too much about trends - unless you have enough money to redo the kitchen every 3 years - you’ll never keep up the latest thing - so best not to even try !

Having enough storage makes a huge difference to a kitchen - we had ours redone in 2015 & we decided on a lot of storage, with the cupboards scribed to the ceiling (no my dust at the top of the units) as well as useable long counter tops that are practical for preparing & cooking. Personally I think that gloss kitchens are still popular. However I see the trend moving towards mixing in different textures as well. My preference is for Matt doors but whatever you like I think that adding some wood, a different texture such as concrete or stone or more than one colour elevates what would otherwise be a little ordinary.

I saw a lovely kitchen yesterday that mixed natural wood with painted wood in the same cabinet.

Lots are still top sellers. We sell gloss, Ash effect shakers and super matt too. It's each to their own.

I design a lot of kitchens and believe me gloss is still as popular as the classic shaker style. What we are seeing a lot of people go for at the minute are flat matt colours in modern handless shapes. When it comes to kitchens I wouldn't worry about trends too much and think of it as an investment piece and buy what you like. You can then add on trend lead pieces such as lights, accessories and the like as these are more affordable to change as and when the inclination takes you.
