What colour are the walls in this picture?

Hi all,

So I've fallen in love with the wall colour in this picture and am trying to find the closest match to the color shown on the walls, does anyone have any idea what colour this is?

Try Charleston Grey or London Clay --- Farrow and Ball.. These two are nice colours anyways. Worth checking out and look very similar. Make sure to get tester pots, and paint large A3 sheet with two good coats and move around the room at various times of day to see how it might look. Best of luck.

There are no rules when it comes to picture walls. If you go for eclectic then different styles of frames are better and different colours. However a modern classic look would be to keep the frames in a similar style (ie don't mix ornate baroque with plain frames). Mixed sizes are good to add interest to the display. I've seen walls done in a set pattern but also waves of frames that start as a cluster and end up with just a single one at the end. Think of it as a giant piece of wall art. Spacing wise, I would either keep to a set space (say 2") between frames or do the whole thing random.

Like where you are going with the blue. Keep the curtains straight, no tie backs, replace the blind with no frills and change your occasional furniture to something more like the tv set up - not wood as your floor is wood and it makes it look at bit "twee". Darker blue/grey on the chimney breast maybe and paler walls, also more textured cushions in different shapes to add interest in neutral colours. The blues look good on your fire place and the picture too. Instead of gold why not add a brighter yellow, like the daffs, to bring modernity to the scheme? Good luck!

Hello Rachel, I would leave the arch plain as is. One fantastic way of dealing with dado and picture rails and even skirting is simply to paint it! By that I mean leave the beading off altogether and paint the separations. This was common in the servants quarters where details were left to a minimum but actually I love this look !! It not only suggests a period aesthetic but has a really modern and contemporary feel. The same can be done with skirting. With the floor have a simple bead around the edge of the floor to finish. Mask the height and paint a line. Same again to picture rail height etc etc... I would add architrave to doors only and then try my suggestions. If you really want to add detail to the skirting you can decide how high, then add beading along the top and several sections (depending on height overall of room) or base only if height minimal and skirting minimal. Then paint the lot the colour of your choosing. :))

Create a vignette with your frames. Keep the frame colours the same (black will be good) but go for different sizes. Start with the largest frame in the centre (middle of this frame at eye level) & arrange the smaller frames around it to create the vignette. You can also use the TV as the centre of your vignette to help it disappear! I hope this helps, all the best!
