M-home
D: shelving under stairs M: I quite like this style of shelving, and it feels like a good use of space. M again: I also like the way the wooden tone of the stair shelving, and the wooden floor, are so similar, effectively agreeing and merging with each other. That with the white background wall feels sleeker to me than painting the wooden shelves themselves white.
D: timber staircase, metallic pillar and beam in an accent colour, stairs rail. M: Interesting! Very different Scandinavian style. The 2-directional wooden slats as balusters are pretty cool. I'd hope we don't need a support beam like that in my house, but if it's needed I'd consider doing an accent colour like this.
D: corner sofa, rug
D: colourscheme. M: Nice colourscheme, feels classy. Main concern is that a black/grey could be too dark.
D: bedroom wall lights, artworks, rug
D: bedroom side table
D: bedroom wallpaper for back wall M: Interesting! I could imagine something like this for my place on one wall, depending on finding a wallpaper design that felt right
D: built in open shelving under mattress M: This is cool, I like it.
D: built in storage under the bed M: I like it, feels functional and elegant
D: bed and storage shelf and cabinets behind bed M: I'm into storage, and visible storage, but the many small compartments here make it seem very "busy", too much so for external storage in my opinion. Looking at it inspires stress rather than peace.
D: bed with storage under M: Yurgh, I know it's not what you were highlighting, but I don't like this bed. Feels cramped and boxed-in.
D: study/ bedroom feature wall, chair, floor lamp M: Feature wall is interesting though I wouldn't go for a map, but would consider other things. I don't like the desk/chair here, it really doesn't work for me - feels too austere and lacking in visual comfort, at the same time as feeling like it's trying too hard to be fancy, in a pseudo-vintage 1900s way.
D: spare bedroom mirror above fireplace M: I love this idea of integrating the fireplaces into some design like this! The mirror looks cool. Maybe one that's slightly simpler, with fewer busy interior lines?
D: study design idea, colours, finishes M: I quite like this. Feels solid, like an anchor for a room, while still feeling natural and authentic. Rich wood and 2-tone feels like it works for me. I could imagine trying a different non-wood tone here, not sure if I want it to feel too identical to the kitchen. Chair I'm not a fan of, really doesn't look comfortable.
D: study wallpaper, desk, shelving unit. M: I don't like this desk at all, feels way too heavyweight. Study wallpaper could be kind of cool. Thought, instead of a wallpaper with a chalkboard aesthetic - I could consider a whiteboard wall in the study. I use whiteboards a lot when thinking, I like them, they're definitely "me".
M: Tones here are okay but I don't love any of it. Desk seems both heavyweight and old-fashioned.
D: study storage, desk, skirting colour M: This storage feels too overbearing and noticeable to me. I've got high ceilings in the study, I'd prefer storage which doesn't impose itself on the room, doesn't grab the eye, doesn't come down as low to invade your space. In terms of colour tones, could be the same tones as the wall? Or maybe storage which took up less physical space would still be fine with an accented colour tone. I'm not sure.
D: study design idea, colours, desk in front of the window M: I like this more than I thought I would. Maybe it's just because it's got great light! I like the wooden floor colour; the fact that the desk seating is so wide and open that it can fit 2 chairs; and the way that the integrated bench fits neatly in visually with the wall and desk. The accented colours on the top third of the wall work really well here IMO.
D: 75cm fix glass shower, colours, finishes. M: Like the shower, like the tiles, like the glass wall. (The shower tiling here is my favourite of all the pics on this board actually.) I don't like the sink, too angular/modern/artificial, like a hotel. The lit-from-behind mirror is right on the edge, I kind of like it, but it's also right on the edge of feeling similar to the sink. (But I wouldn't rule it out, maybe with sink finishings that had more of my aesthetic I'd like it?)
D: storage to the back of shower M: Looks good, subtle, which is probably what I want in that leftover space. I should have more width of storage than in this photo right?
D: Bathroom colours, finishes, sink M: My first thought is that this feels too artificial/angular/fancy-hotel-ish. Though I do like the metal sink. Also in terms of sink finishes, much prefer a single tap with mixer than 2 separate.
D: bathroom finishes, colours M: This is a nice bathroom but it's because it all fits together as a modern, light, angular, airy place - I don't think my bathroom is every going to be that, with e.g. the fireplace, so I think it needs to be a synthesis of old and new (like much of the rest of the house).
D: bathroom design colours & finishes
D: funky colourful bathroom accents M: Interesting! I like the idea of introducing a funky piece of colour. This red is probably too full-on. But it'd be interesting to try a bathroom with a colour accent.
D: bathroom finishes & colour scheme. M: A bit drab, plain polished concrete with a brown wall is definitely too much industrial earthy for me.
D: bathroom colours, finishes, sink. M: I like the 2-tone thing going on here, with the individual tones not being block colours but having their own mottling which works well. Also like the way they've adapted a room with some previous weird aspects (like near the ceiling). Not sure about the sink, hard to tell from the pic. Don't like the bright brass taps.
D: bathroom storage unit near shower M: Not a huge fan of this, I prefer the integrated storage in a previous pic with the same colours as the wall, which seems to recede visually in. I don't think bathroom storage makes sense to call out visually.
D: bathroom shower glass, colours M: I don't like this room so much, shower feels like an old-fashioned phone booth, claustraphobic. Prefer the more modern sheet-glass doors and shower enclosures.
D: bathroom colours, finishes. M: Too concrete industrial I think.
M: Not a fan, don't like the shower glass with the ripples in it, or the "windowpane" divisions within it much. Concrete sink with metal supports feels weird, not solid, top-heavy. Don't like the bright brass of the tap, or the showy steampunk-esque big wheel to turn on it.
M: This is okay, as always I like the wooden tone, but it feels a bit plain. Also weird that it's free-standing instead of taking up all the space in this alcove and being integrated into the side walls.
M: Yet another sink that doesn't work for me! This room feels like it's trying too hard to be faux-old-fashioned. Porthole mirror feels super weird to me, like we're in a submarine theme. Sink depth feels like it's not going to be good ergonomics, what's the bench doing there, etc.
M: I like the overall aesthetic of this room. It's funny, because I'm not a huge fan of many of the individual pieces: the sofas, the stairs, the brass lights, none of them feel like exactly what I'd go for. But the overall feel of something open, a mixture between modern and old, the brightness and openness, resonates nicely.
