took the backsplash higher than the standard 4 inches. “It makes it look more custom and substantial,” she says. “I played around with the elevations to get the height just right.” She also had the mirrors furred out from the wall. This means the contractor built a frame behind them on the wall so that they overlap the backsplash

In general, most items in your bathroom can be placed into three categories: frequently used, moderately used and infrequently used. Separate your items into these groups to get an idea of how much storage you’ll need for each type. 10" deep should fit tall items. A tiered sliding drawer (on 1 side of drawer) can store tall + short

If you have chargeable shavers or electrical toothbrushes or if you plan on using or charging any electrical devices in the bathroom, consider installing electrical outlets inside cabinets or drawers to avoid countertop clutter and messy, dangling power cords. Power docks aren’t just for custom vanities — you’ll find them in some off-the-shelf vanities too. Just be sure to tell your electrician early on that you want outlets integrated into your vanity or drawers so he or she can plan for them

help balance the budget with relatively inexpensive tile. The mini mosaic herringbone tiles add a small-scale pattern to the floor in the main part of the bathroom and the shower. The white tiles have gray edges. “We matched the grout to the gray on the herringbone tiles,” Alfin says. “Then we used the same gray grout on the subway tile.”
blue mosaic tile appears in elegant vertical columns in the shower. These columns and the textured glass on the enclosure recall a waterfall —FINALLY shower glass thats not clear
there’s no such thing as a shower niche that’s too big. This one is 31 inches wide by 25 inches high, with a tempered glass shelf.
ONE LONG LEDGE to house the plumbing for the tub faucets and to serve as a shelf for bathtub needs. Using large-format porcelain tiles on the floor minimized grout lines.
At first my clients thought they wanted a steam shower, but after asking them questions, I determined they just wanted a really hot, steamy shower. There’s a difference,” she says. By extending the glass shower enclosure to the ceiling, the shower can feel a lot like a steam shower without the extra expense. The section of glass over the shower door can be tilted for ventilation when needed. CEILING WAS DOUBLE HT and lowered to 10'
A cleverly recessed towel bar niche keeps towels out of the way, and recessing the bar means there’s no bumping into it in the tight space. Towel bar suspended from above.
Do I like free standing and full side glass on shower? Too much open space, dust places, sidemount or end mount fixtures???

OPEN SHOWER + LONG NICHE An open shower entrance rather than a door (the shower enclosure’s glass panel is larger than it appears in this photo) “I warned them that there could be some minimal water splatter with an opening like this, but I said, they’ve told me that hardly any water escapes the stall,
Of the blue tiles, there are a handful of different graphic patterned field tiles that were installed randomly over the whole wall, creating a subtle graphic pattern with high impact. In order to keep it light, she selected a basic white wall tile for the rest of the shower surround , used clear glass on the enclosure and tucked the niche on the side wall -- allowing the blue accent wall to make a huge impact. Placing the floating bench at the end of the shower made the most of the space inside : adding functional seating space without looking too heavy.

This view looking away from the shower highlights the wood-look porcelain tile, which offers warmth and durability. It’s also a very close match to the old real wood they have throughout the rest of their home - not sure if I like that, but it does warm it up.
The matte black shower set features a handheld shower head that reaches across to the bench.
A custom frameless glass surround with matte black hardware, creating a more light and open feel. A special coating on the glass causes water to bead up, making cleaning easier. The walls and built-in bench are covered in creamy beige 12-by-24-inch porcelain tiles laid in a horizontal offset pattern with taupe grout. “I felt that was a very classic look,” the designer says. “The large-format tile is nice, to minimize the grout lines.” The floor and niche backing are marble mosaic tile in a basketweave pattern. The dot seen in the basketweave almost matches the color of the large-format tile used.
Elegant white walls with a warm gray undertone (Rotunda White by Kelly-Moore Paints) and an off-white ceiling (Swiss Coffee by Kelly-Moore Paints) provide a soft and soothing backdrop and contrast for the new poplar vanity painted navy blue (After Midnight, in a satin finish, by Kelly-Moore Paints) Cabinrt pulls in champagne bronze. “They were a little hesitant about the darkness of the vanity, but I asked them to trust me and told them we could always paint over it, because I felt we needed one pop of color in there,” Kjellberg says. “I didn’t want the room to feel sterile. They love how warm, soothing and serene the bathroom now feels.”
Vertical storage for cutting boards, trays and cookie sheets. Since I didn’t have a tall vertical storage space, I would stash these items in a large drawer under my oven. Items rested on top of each other, and it was always difficult to find what I was looking for. My solution was to remove the middle shelf from a small lower cabinet so I would have enough height to store taller items. I purchased a slide-out organizer designed for storing large trays, cutting boards and cookie sheets.
Layer Your Lighting: back lit mirror / med cabinet Windows bring in horizontal light to counter overhead lights. Without a window, all you’ve got is vertical light coming straight down — not flattering. Wall fixtures will bring back that glow to your face (and your space).

Here’s a close-up of where the shower stall’s threshold meets the bathroom floor. At right of the photo see where she added half-inch penny rounds in the grout lines between the bathroom floor’s large-format tiles.
A 6 by 6 feet, the shower might appear overly large -- using her designer’s eye and playing with scale to address that, she created a smaller square of white hexagonal tiles in the center of the shower pan, then surrounded that with a wide border of the large-format gray tiles she used on the bathroom floor.
Title says it all !
DIMENSIONS / CLEARENCES to keep in mind
A drawer lined with a heat-safe material, as shown here — is well worth the effort: outlet pulls out with drawer (like a skinny tray cabinet)
CURBLESS, even that close to toilet : pony wall niche (out of view) : one glass panel ( is that too cold?)
They loved classic subway tile, but I talked them into going with a 3-by-8-inch subway tile instead of the standard 3-by-6-inch subway tile. It’s a more updated look that elongates the width of the room. She topped the tile with a traditional wood chair rail. The black line between the chair rail and the tile is the same black grout she used on all of the wall tile, applied in a thicker line.
Cabrera + Apple green : Good combo
LOVE: Carrara marble remnant tops the shower curb and coordinates with the Carrara marble vanity top and integrated sink. The floor-to-ceiling frameless glass panel with a fixed opening creates the illusion of more space and provides a splash guard for the wet area. NO LOVE: Geomet. floor tile (which I woulda loved last year); too much contrast in shower niche
The linear niche is the most significant design detail in the room,” Sanders says. “It continues along the entire wall, even into the shower, which ties the space together and provides much-needed, convenient storage. The wood-lined recessed niche lends a lot of warmth and adds an unexpected material into the bathroom.
The shower niche is dramatic because of its height, this draws the eyes upward and makes the space feel larger : bottom shelf can be shaving stumpf.
Is it odd or good?

It was fabricated in the shape of the Southern California canyon where the homeowner resides. Trueform exhibited the sink (not on the market) as an example of the design personalization.
Mosaic tile half wall ... good accent!
Love dark contrast of wainscot in bath...the shower was blk tile too..don't like that
I'd have recessed the shelf with the outlets on the front enough for items to be able to remain plugged in with the door closed. Then, instead of an on/off switch for the outlets, a timer would ensure the appliances can't stay on too long. Having to plug your hair dryer in every time you use it would seem to defeat the purpose of the outlets being inside the cabinet. YES
3x6 stall is spacious; niches (one for each) placed where you can't see it upon entering room. DON'T like door opens in -- unless controls are not right under shower head
