1. Choose Midnight Romance
If you relish dark over light decor, then this is the look for you, with dark, inky-blue walls providing the perfect backdrop to a chrome metal frame bed with chunky styling. “Darker shades are being brought into the bedroom in a more luxurious styling,” says Stephen. “Flat blues, deep greys and forest greens are being mixed with metallic finishes and accent bedside furniture.”
Get the look: Go for dark, dramatic walls for a mysterious feel, with sturdy pieces of furniture in dark colours and chrome accents to complement the bed frame. Opt for furniture in dark woods that blend with the wall colour and display artworks in matching dark frames. When it comes to choosing a bed, opt for a beautifully ornate shape with oversized legs, bars and finials to add extra drama.
Bonus styling tip: When done right, dark walls can actually make a small room appear larger, as the dark colours visually recede, which fools your eyes into thinking they’re further away than they actually are. If you’re still worried that dark walls will turn your bedroom into a cave, keep the ceiling white to maintain an airy feeling throughout the room.

2. Add Simple Scandinavian Flair
Soft, calm and relaxing, this light scheme is ideal for lovers of Nordic style. Light wood furniture is typical of this style, with clean lines, curved edges and tapered legs. Calming shades, like the oceanic blue of this upholstered bed frame, are key to this trend and keep the room looking cool and contemporary. Scandi style is ideal for small-space rooms – “go for a small double bed frame to save space in a small room,” says Stephen. “Or choose a bed with ottoman storage or shelving built into the headboard to maximise space.”
Get the look: Opt for furniture with strong Scandi influences, using light woods and matching furniture. Soften the look with an upholstered bed, along with cosy sheepskin rugs and textured throws and cushions.
Bonus styling tip: Adding organic elements, such as wood, helps bring nature inside and will give your bedroom a soft, tactile feel.

3. Go For Cool Urban Loft
Always loved the idea of loft living? Then get the look with some industrial-style furniture and a rustic backdrop. Here, brick-print wallpaper makes a statement behind the textured metal bed frame, with its contrasting dark wood-effect finish. “Replacing all your furniture items can be expensive, so create a more eclectic environment by adding a contrast with materials and finishes,” says Stephen.
Get the look: Choose industrial-style materials, such as metal, rustic wood and brick – all of which work well when it comes to the bed frame, too. Hard flooring is ideal for this look, but if you want a softer scheme, then invest in a large rug, plants and plenty of textured bed linen. Additionally, bare light bulbs and rustic wicker or hard-wood storage baskets will suit this scheme.
Bonus styling tip: Plants help to breathe life into interior schemes, and are ideal for softening a look like this, which is full of hard lines and materials. Pop some on your bedside table, from the ceiling in hanging planters, or in metal floor planters to continue the theme.

4. Indulge in Graceful Glamour
Bling lovers, this one’s for you! A look that’s full of sparkle, with a bed frame that features large diamantes in its curved headboard and a mirror that’s equally glitzy. Soft blush fabrics give it an extra feminine touch, with a plush velvet chair and a sink-your-feet-into rug adding a luxurious feel.
Get the look: Paint your bedroom walls in a strong colour that will contrast well with the softer pale pink tones and opt for furniture and accessories that will add a sparkly touch. “Chrome is a very popular choice in furniture, especially on metal bed frames,” says Stephen. “While mixing different materials together can create a strong look, try to avoid mixing different metals together and style the room with similar metallic tones.” The shape of your bed is just as important as the material and comfort, so opt for a design with a softly curved headboard, which again adds to the feminine feel.
Bonus styling tip: Choose ditsy or blowsy florals prints for accessories and bed linen, and add pretty vintage-style accessories. Fabrics should scream luxury, so go for soft-to-touch velvet, mohair and suede-effect finishes.
