Bright white cabinets are a great choice if you want a kitchen that feels light and airy, and the neutral tone looks great with most splashback surfaces – in fact, you might find yourself spoilt for choice. If you need some help to narrow down your options, take a look at these rooms for inspiration.

Beat the blues
A brightly coloured splashback is a great way to liven up any kitchen, but it will stand out particularly well next to white units. In this space designed by Paper House Project, a wall of vivid blue tiles is a striking contrast to the white room around it.
A similar effect would be created by an alternative bold colour, but the key is to balance the space. Here, the glossy black pendants add a similar strong, cool tone to the opposite side of the room, giving the scheme a subtle symmetry.

Create a contrast
For a contrasting look in your kitchen, set off bright white cabinets with a black splashback. This is a similar idea to a contrasting bright-toned wall, but the look is cool and restrained.
Here, the team at Thomas de Cruz Architects & Designers have broken up a wall of white with a rectangle of charcoal. To balance the look, they’ve chosen a trio of black pendants that hang above the island.

Show off subtle stone
A row of unadorned white cabinets in this room designed by Kitchen Architecture is an ideal backdrop for this marble splashback. The veining on the wall is set off beautifully by the plain units, and those dark, meandering lines are brought out even more by the black tap and sink.
If you’d like to create a similar effect, be aware that solid marble requires quite a bit of maintenance, so it’s worth considering marble-effect composite stones.

Reflect on it
Add to the luminous look of white kitchen cabinets by going for a splashback made of glass. Here, Morph Interior installed a wall of pale blue back-painted glass between two rows of gloss white units.
The two reflective surfaces work together to bounce light around the room, creating a space that feels bright and airy.

Keep it sleek
If you’ve chosen white units as a neutral background to the room, a matching white splashback could be a good option.
The white surface above the worktop in this kitchen, designed by Black & Milk, blends into the cabinets. The combination of white on white acts as a blank canvas for other elements in the space, allowing the warm tones on the table and floor to be more prominent.

Play with pattern
If you fancy going for double white with a little more texture, try this idea. The snowy units have been complemented by a wall of black and white geometric tiles.
By using pattern rather than colour, the kitchen maintains a minimal aesthetic without being too clinical.
