Aesthetics we like
There are a lot of houses from our area, built in the 1970s (eg in the Pettit & Sevitt style). We wouldn't want to reproduce them exactly (eg not the exposed brick or wood panelling). But the clever use of high windows to bring in light, the connection to the outdoors and the sympathetic way the houses nestle into the block appeal.
We do want to make the house as accessible as possible (eg avoiding stairs, wide hallways, low light fittings etc) which means there would be trade offs between that and the split level designs.
We love light filled houses that have great cross ventilation for summer but we don't want to live in a fishbowl. We really value energy efficiency from a comfort and cost saving point of view, but aren't looking to be at the tip of the spear in all the latest and greatest technologies.
We are lazy, so also like low or no maintenance options (eg external surfaces that don't need repainting or other maintenance).
We don't like the wood panelling but we love cork floors.

Like: Slopey roof bit
Like the way the house nestles into the block. Don't like the way it feels a bit too showy and over the top. Too much glass.
Like: simple roof line, high windows. Dislike: too much glazing, fish bowl feel. Feels like a holiday home.
