The tub is cast iron and sits right on the plywood subfloor. The floor frame consists of 1-3/4" x 9-1/4" wood I-joists which are stiffer than the equivalent 2x10 dimension lumber. Also, being immediately adjacent to the exterior wall provides additional support. If it were in the middle of a long joist span, then I would have beefed-up the floor frame to stiffen it for the additional load. Regarding the undermount installation, once we set the tub, we framed a 2x4 knee wall at the long front edge with ledger boards at the remaining 3 sides. The marble deck, pieced at the corners, is then templated and installed, spanning from the ledgers and knee wall, to the top edge of the tub. That model of Kohler's "Reve" tub is designed for an undermount installation and has a relatively flat top rim. That said, castings are never perfectly flat, that is there is usually some measure of crown or twist to the rim. It does not lie in an even plane. My recollection is that this particular tub was not out by much., so shimming of the stone was minimal Once the stone was installed, the wainscot panel assembly which I had built myself, was installed and trimmed-out along the front.
