I wouldn't let an electrician design my lighting anymore than I would let a plumber design my new bathroom. They can advise on what is possible but the design is down to you or a professional if you can afford it. There are usually restrictions in terms of plumbing and lighting options. I have 5m ceilings that will require scaffolding to change my pendant lighting and a good electrician will know whether its possible to install my preferred lights due to weight, length of (and colour and style) the flex required. The position is also important. Discuss what's possible first before buying something that can't be fitted. You need to work together.

As a residential lighting consultant, my heart sank when this article advised seeking design advise from electricians.

Though the two disciplines [lighting design & lighting installation] absolutely must work together - they are indeed different skill sets.

I support the previous comments - agreed on all points!

Wiring for electric vehicles seems an important upgrade if you have the floors up: we had the line to the garage upgraded to 6mm armored cable so it could carry a higher charge even though we don’t yet own an electric car.
