Chevrons, zigzags, herringbone… Whatever you want to call a pattern of angled rectangular shapes, it’s a hot look right now. This of-the-moment zigzag design is not only gracing the catwalks, it is popping up in our homes, too. It’s easy to see why. Chevrons are graphic, stylish and can slot into most interiors, whether they have a contemporary Scandi look or coolly classic style.
Chevrons in strong colours make a big style statement, but if you feel that look is too bold, incorporate these stylish stripes in cool, muted tones instead. This way, you can work them into your scheme without risking them taking over, adding a touch of interest and character on anything from rugs and cushions, to wallpaper and lighting.

Use as an accent
These cushions neatly combine two of the hottest trends of the moment: bold zigzag prints and monochrome. Teamed with splashes of yellow and fresh white walls, they are the focal point in a fun, contemporary bedroom.

Work it on wallpaper
If you are feeling brave, why not skip the accessories and get your chevron fix via wallpaper? This design in soft beige and white is subtle enough to blend into most interior schemes, but still makes a statement.

Mix the monochrome
Masculine monochrome gets a more playful feel in this room, thanks to a mix of chevron stripes on the rug and straight black and white stripes on the wall. Elsewhere, white walls and furniture create a cool backdrop, helping the stripes jump out.

Pick parquet
Parquet floor, made from a mosaic of wooden pieces, is typically laid in a herringbone pattern. Here, this flooring’s soft, beachy tones bring a contemporary twist to a classic chevron floor design and add subtle pattern in this Scandi-inspired kitchen.

Combine stripe styles
Don’t be afraid to mix chevron stripes with standard straight stripes. As long as the colours are similar in hue, the combination will look striking and super stylish.

Change direction
By fitting simple, rectangular tiles at an angle, you can create a beautiful chevron effect. On this kitchen splashback, the result is very subtle, but these tiles laid in a chevron pattern add movement and detail to the kitchen. You could also try contrasting white tiles with grey grout, for a slightly industrial look.

Take it tribal
Chevron stripes are ideal if you’re after a tribal look. The graphic print is reminiscent of safari animal stripes and looks fabulous against cool grey walls, wooden furniture and zingy green accessories.

Beef up a grey scheme
Liven up cool grey shades with a bold, chevron rug. It anchors this neutral scheme and gives it some welcome heft. Zesty lime and cool blue tones are the finishing touch.

Keep it subtle
You don’t need to slap chevron prints across every surface of your home for them to add style to your space. Here, a single sofa seat is covered in chevron stripe fabric in soft grey and pastel tones. The Z-shaped wooden chair adds a further chevron reference.

Find it on furniture
