Bedroom Ideas
Unify or isolate a space. Wallpaper patterns move one’s eye throughout a space, bouncing from one design to another. When installed on all four walls, the experience is continuous, making the entire room visually engaging and cohesive. In this bedroom, the floral wallpaper design acts as a jumping-off point for secondary accent colors and patterns. The deep blacks and pops of pink connect to the floral wallpaper pattern. Without the wallpaper, these components would fall flat.
By adding the appearance of volume, shading is another way wallpaper can create a semblance of space. Shading an object makes it look three-dimensional, and this trellis design appears to have thickness. The flat area behind could read as sky or air, giving the sense that there’s an expanse behind the trellis.
Many scenic wallpapers lean on the use of artistic perspective. Objects closest are larger in size and darker in value. Receding away, the imagery diminishes in size and value, or becomes lighter. The wooded-landscape pattern of the wallpaper shown here brings a feeling of spaciousness far beyond the limitations of the wall.
The closet area also serves as a hallway to the newly redone master bathroom. She had the closet doors custom made to be unobtrusive and blend right in with the hallway and bedroom. The bathroom was the first part of the project Lalvani designed and completed, but she based the gold and white palette off the wallpaper she had already chosen for the bedroom.
Bed runner. Virtually any type of bed covering can be further decked out with a bed runner, also known as a bed scarf — a thin, flat band of fabric that may or may not be reversible, and trimmed as elaborately or as simply as one prefers. Runners are less of an investment and are one of the easiest home sewing projects to do. What they add to a room’s style far exceeds the time, money and effort spent sewing.

Another kitchen-cabinet-inspired outfitting involves drawer pullouts, making it easy to see and grab all your shoes — none of them are getting neglected in the back of a drawer.
