As only the second LEED v4 home in the nation, Island Tranquility displays a variety of green features that maintain the home’s stylistic integrity. High-quality Thermador appliances, a luxury appliance brand, are incorporated throughout the kitchen. We also installed engineered strand bamboo flooring in the dining room, an eco-friendly yet high-quality alternative to hardwood or carpeting. Many of the home’s green features also exist “behind the scenes,” like its WaterSense-qualified plumbing fixtures, green-labeled framing lumber, and CARB-compliant cabinetry.
The new space blends sustainability with luxury, all while catering to the owners’ specific needs. In the kitchen, for example, the baker’s island with prep sink was lowered to accommodate the homeowner, who suffers from back and arm injuries. The customized countertop allows her now to cut at a level that doesn’t cause pain. Similarly, the spa-like master bathroom features specialty grab bars in the shower, as well as a built-in shower bench seat for the homeowner’s long-term use.
Because the homeowners wanted to create a multifunctional space to match their family-oriented lifestyle, we installed a Zoom-Room Murphy Bed in the guest bedroom for their visiting parents, which can be tucked away to transform the room into a home office. Even the laundry room has a second function: a home for their dogs! The polished space features eco-friendly appliances, a durable Grothouse walnut countertop, and an outdoor shower, perfect for the family’s furriest members!
Island Tranquility is a home that truly encompasses what makes design great. Each and every one of our choices was the result of careful thought and consideration of the homeowners’ wants and needs. The resulting home excels in green design without sacrificing luxury or functionality. At Archipelago Hawaii, this is the direction in which we see the design industry moving: exclusive focus on the smallest, yet most significant details that transform our clients’ houses into their dream homes.
