Not shouty, but not bland either, classy grey has been the colour of choice for interiors for the last few years and its popularity shows no sign of diminishing. With so many shades to choose from (did someone mention 50?), the spectrum offers something for everyone, from inky slates to whispy silvers. And its flattering, practical qualities make it a great choice for the bathroom, as these inspiring examples show. Going grey has never been so appealing.
Go back to nature
Who knew chic grey could contribute to a scheme with a natural vibe? Pale grey metro tiles and a dark slate floor are teamed with a pale wooden vanity unit and a bleached wooden stool for a lovely organic feel. Simple but effective – and adding up to a lovely place to get ready for the day ahead…

Dig deep
If a dramatically dark shade of grey floats your boat, try pairing it with paler marble, as seen here. The veined pattern provides a more subtle effect than the stark contrast that would come from plain-white fixtures and fittings.

Pick a pattern
From patterned tiles to wallpaper, going grey doesn’t have to mean reaching for the paint tin. This super-smart space shows how a graphic design can give a more lively look to a grey bathroom. Smart dark-grey shutters offer privacy and light, while the pull-down bath panel provides hidden storage. A must as clutter doesn’t equal chic.

Take it to another level
Dark colours can feel soothing, making them ideal for a relaxing space, but to make them sing why not introduce a single hit of the colour of the moment – sunshine yellow. This chair is also the perfect place for a pedicure. The other design choices we love in this space are the sheet of brass lining the recess behind the sink (just look at the glow it gives) and the horizontal panelling (love, love the texture it brings).

Clad with marble
With its distinct, elegant grey patterns and cool feel, marble is an ever-popular choice for the bathroom. If the real deal is out out your price range, there are lots of very effective marble-look porcelain tiles on the market. In this bathroom, a gold shower-curtain rail and fittings offer an opulent alternative to the more usual chrome.

Pitch it right
The perfect mid-grey shade on the tongue-and-groove cladding and door is all it takes to turn this bathroom into a stylish retreat. This discreet shade of grey is also the perfect backdrop for introducing a mix of accessories to ace the eclectic look.

Light up
In a bathroom that doesn’t get much natural light, grey might seem a no go but it isn’t. Going for a pale-grey glossy tile throughout, as seen here, then installing clever lighting and mirrors (to bounce the light around) and the overall effect is anything but dreary. Even the gloss tiles help to bounce light around.

Build a wall
The clever design idea here is the partition wall, which has created an en suite for the bedroom. Another smart move was opting for a light-grey paint on the en-suite walls instead of more ‘bathroom-y’ tiles, as this makes the open-plan space more cohesive.

Add a jolt of pink
Can’t choose which side of your personality your bathroom décor should reflect? If you’re battling between whether to indulge your classic leanings or your disco diva, how about this happy compromise? Two shades of grey are set off by splashes of vibrant hot pink. The result? Everyone’s a winner.

Mix things up
Rather than a one-stop-shop at the bathroom showroom, how about getting creative with reclaimed finds? That’s how this grey bathroom ended up with so much character. The vintage bath with a distressed grey exterior and simple copper-piping taps sets the scene for other upcycled pieces. The overall effect is a laid-back, modern-rustic space, which proves that grey can be a little bit country, too.

I love the first one and the 4th, the one with the wood floor. Did also decide to go for grey tiles in my kitchen/shower room :-)
Love the idea of adding 'jolt of pink'. We have some fabulous pink artworks that might also do the trick...
great use of colour and texture.
