As regular users will know, Houzz is a pretty unique platform, allowing you to work on all the stages of a renovation project in one place, from searching for inspiration and getting advice to hiring a professional and even shopping, you can do it all here. This is due to the make up of Houzz’s community – some of you are homeowners, some of you are design professionals, some are brands – and Houzz connects you all in a nice, big, friendly space. Here’s how to harness the power of the hugely knowledgeable Houzz community, and how to locate products in the Houzz Shop and beyond.

Be inspired
Many of the photos you see on Houzz have been uploaded from a professional’s own portfolio – from interior designers to architects and photographers (and also brands, more of which shortly).
This mix provides plenty of inspiration from real projects. It also means that specific products aren’t always listed or still available, depending on when the project was completed and also where the designer is based (Houzz is a global community).
Where this is the case, don’t worry: there are many ways to find more information and locate that perfect piece for your own project.

1. Look out for green or white tags
Click onto and hover over this photo – and lots more around the platform – and you’ll see a Houzz green tag (white if you’re using the app), hanging off one of those bentwood Thonet chairs.
Click it and you’ll find product info and a link to purchase. Simple!

2. Look right
When you see a space or an idea you like, as well as saving it for visual inspiration to one of your Ideabooks (read all about that here), you can click on it to discover more, or to ask a question (see the image below for the information that pops up to the right of an image when you click on it).

3. Speak up
There are a few types of companies that have profiles on Houzz, including design and build professionals, photographers and retail brands.
Let’s start with finding more information about a photo that belongs to a design and build professional or a photographer.
In this case, the product information, where to buy and so on, is unlikely to be something the professional will have added to the photo information (unlike a retail brand, which sells the product, more of which shortly).

So how can you find out that information?
- Share your question – ‘what colour paint is that?’ or ‘where’s that chair from?’ – with the knowledgeable Houzz community: this will very often point you in the right direction. Click on any photo and look at the panel that appears on the right (on the website) or tap ‘Find out more’ at the bottom of your screen (on the app) and scroll down to see this in action.
- The designer may even get back to you personally (perhaps you’ll even decide to hire them for your own project).
- You can also reach other Houzzers by posting a question in the Advice section.
Now let’s move to a photo uploaded by a retail brand.
Above is a different example of what you might see if you click on a photo and look right: in this case, this company sells products.

- At the top, circled in red here, you’ll see the brand or company behind the photo (you can also see this at a glance in the white watermarks that appear at the top of every photograph uploaded to Houzz).
- Take a note of the collection’s name: here it is ‘Living Room Inspiration’.
- Now click on the company name and you’ll land on their profile page. Hit ‘Projects’ to see lots of the products they sell. There will then be a list on the left of collections – pick the one that matches what you’ve noted and click into it to find your photo.
- Post your question about the product beneath it, or simply call the brand or email them or visit their website using the info displayed top right.
- If you see product shots, rather than room sets, you’re even closer. Click onto the photo and a button that says ‘Visit Store’ will appear. Simply click to buy direct from the company’s own website…
4. Check out the Houzz Shop
The Houzz Shop is relatively new in the UK and it’s growing every day. Chances are, whatever you’re looking for, it’ll be here.

- Seen an idea you like – for example ‘pink kitchen bin’? Just type it into the search box that you’ll see at the top of every page on Houzz and hit ‘Products’ in the drop-down menu to search (that bit is really important). You’ll land on a page a bit like this one.
- Don’t be put off by the flags denoting the country a product comes from – it’s just us showing off about our international collections, shipping is not more expensive.
- You can also go direct to the Shop section and browse by department.
