As a charity we have commissioned Cowen Garden Design (Andrew) on a part time basis to design and look after planting schemes for 3 sites in and around Bath. The scheme will need to select Veg that can be sown and cropped in one short season to attract those who might be interested in the growing industry as well as show all Mentees (our service users) the growing cycle from seed to table. It’s also intended that we plant cut flowers to give another dimension to the activity. We have worked with Andrew in the past are are very happy with his work. High quality, and generally a nice guy to work with!

Although it was a small garden it was a big project for me to take on and the transformation it made was excellent. The work reflected Andrew's experience in creating a balanced structure to the flowerbeds which gave the garden a new depth. He produced a small and practical kitchen garden which worked really well. Fragrance was important to me and the use of Rosemary around the edges of the decking was a master stroke. Whilst I was not a fan of decking Andrew predicted that it would facilitate an easy flow from the house into the middle of the garden and it did exactly that. We enjoyed being in our garden so much more!

Andrew is knowledgeable, without being pedantic. He provides the way forward on ideas for the garden in a soft spoken manner but takes account of the client's views and wishes. He has been constructive in helping to develop our patch of vegetable and fruit garden from a wasteland into something that's both productive and aesthetically pleasing.

We have had a great and efficient service from Andrew, who was recommended to us by my father, in our garden redesign so far - he took great care in producing a design that met all of our needs, and would transform a currently shabby concrete garden into a proper extension of the house that would be much more respectful of the house's heritage as an arts and crafts-influenced piece of early 20th century city housing. He has been attentive to our budget throughout the process, and produced an innovative design for a small garden that would provide both greater privacy and a feeling of more space. We are very happy! Update April 2017: Since producing the design, Andrew helped us find builders to carry out the work, kept tabs on their progress as they worked through February, and produced a modern planting plan for us that when it grows out over the summer will provide seclusion from the surrounding gardens as well as colour and scent throughout the year. Removing the step down from the French windows into the garden and creating an inviting room outside with warm paving and lush planting has been transformational for our enjoyment of the garden and desire to be outside.

Andrew and I have worked together on many garden design and build projects. We won an "In bloom" award the first job we did together. I've always found his plant knowlage to be second to none and his planting schemes to be inspirational and really work long term. He's great with clients and shows a concern and consideration not often seen in the construction industry.

Andrew did a fantastic job of transforming our modest roof terrace in London. He listened to our needs at every step of the way, whilst also bringing innovative design ideas to the table. The process was seamless and the end result is truly wonderful, plus it came in under budget! Most importantly, what was a rather ghastly mess of concrete, lead, and brick is now a beautiful, usable space and a lovely place to spend a sunny afternoon with friends. I couldn't recommend Cowen Garden Design highly enough.

I really appreciate all the advice Andrew has given over the years to develop and maintain our large terraced garden. In 2007 after removing a large conifer tree and digging out the roots we wanted to instal a garden pond. My intention was to simply continue to dig the hole till I was fed up and then create a pond. It was part of the garden that wasn't really used by the rest of the family or visitors who thought the garden ended at the tree we removed. Instead I decided to ask Andrew to see if he could come up with a better idea. His design was so good we decided to go with it and he then arranged the construction with a contractor. It has made such a difference to the garden and now the area is regularly used and visited. It has made the most of the space, the shrubs and trees that were kept around the area and new planting. I am very happy to recommend Andrew who has the depth of knowledge and experience to give you a design that will exceed your expectations while advising on the right planting for the effect you want with the soil and environmental conditions you have. Andrew Cowan and his team created a garden for us from a building site, left after our new home was built. The garden contains all the elements we asked for and is easy-care, with lots of flowering shrubs and perennials. We have interesting colour and texture all year round. The flowing lines of the lawn give a feeling of space and add width to the garden. Everyone who visits says how lovely the garden is and we enjoy maintaining it.
