Awesome article! And for some reason, while reading this, I couldn't get an old Adam Ant song out of my head...Goody Two Shoes:

"We don't follow fashion
That'd be a joke
You know we're going to set them, set them
So everyone can take note, take note"

@scotswiss, you could have real fun adding things into the decor like a wooden propellor above the sofa; there are some nice "aviator" pieces of furniture around these days, have you seen the updated Eero Aarnio Ball Chair, with a rivetted metal cladding and pleated leather interior? (search aviator chairs and quite a few different types come up), You can also get chests/tables in similar style, I envy you the project.

My own home is normal to me, but other people find it strange, I think the plumber summed it up best, after he had asked where the nearest power-point was and I told him there was one behind the skeleton, I was asked "Are you related to the Addams family?"

Interesting that virtually all these photos show the all white walls and ceilings which houzzers often condemn as boring. Almost all the joyous colour and eccentricity in these shots is from the furniture and accessories.
