If you’re either replacing your rear doors or having completely new ones as part of an extension, there are lots of options to choose from. Your design professional will be able to advise on the practicalities relevant to your project and help you weigh up the pros and cons. Bifolds, for example, can often be more expensive than French windows and take up more patio space than sliding doors, but they open up a space more fully.

Hi, jodietaylor, that sounds like a very good idea, thank you. Could you give me a heads up on the maker/type of thing you have, please?
- and, yes, Little Jem - I empathise with the breakfast-time problem - exactly the same here, although it's not from the patio doors, but from a window on the other side. Even had that problem this morning, early February, with brilliant sunshine bouncing in off 14" of snow, so not necessarily just an issue from tropical climates!
Really useful and interesting comments thank you. We’re considering a glass extension with flat lantern ceiling and as much glass as possible elsewhere. But with some dwarf walls for character and practicalities. Debating now whether to have large French doors, sliding doors that slide out from the middle to each side, or bio folds. We have a north facing garden and so the space won’t have a huge amount of sun and it does tend to get cool and very blustery when the north wind prevails. What would you suggest for for doors? Thank you!
