Wendy, your refectory table looks lovely, what about some bright colourful cushions on the benches to visually separate the furniture from the chimney-breast? Would be a shame to cover that lovely brickwork.
I love mixing old and new: these are two old Hungarian wardrobes in my kitchen, upcycled to be storage and hidden prep spaces. The 1950s era round zinc meat storage panels give airflow so I can hide potatoes and onions inside.
