Excellent article - my top piece of advice (as a rank amateur) is get the layout right before you think about anything else - it's the hardest step. The same is true in every room. If the layout is right, everything else is easy.

Good points - and I did take (earlier) Houzz advice when choosing my coffee table and settled for a light bamboo framed, glass topped one, now classed as vintage! (Found this on eBay). My TV (only used to watching DVD's) will be housed in a ply wood box... project on hold atm, along with others... that will be painted to match wall colour so it blends into the background. It will also be a useful ledge for ornaments...
