Absolutely a top sheet. More sanitary. I do not use a duvet cover because they are so difficult to put on and take off. if you have arthritis you know. So the down coverlet is only used on top of the top sheet. A down coverlet can be washed and dried in one of those front loading washers. But who wants to do this so frequently ? if you use a top sheet it is not an issue.

I think that all of these hints were good.

I keep socks in a different drawer than underwear. Like others I see no point in folding panties. Just stack. I don't think balling up the socks is good for the elastic over time. Just fold flat.

I would like some good hints for the container drawers. No matter what I do I end up with a jumble of sizes and lids. I wish I still had a dedicated tray and cookie sheet storage cabinet at head height. I loved that feature in a prior house. Less noisy as you are not banging about in a stack but just sliding one thing out.

There is no linen closet in my older house. But I have a very large auxiliary room in the basement. One room holds the laundry and furnace and a sump pump. Not a good place to store linens. But across the hall is a big room with a dehumidifier. I have metal shelving -with grids for circulation. I keep the extra sheets and blankets in there and they stay fresh as there is good light and air circulation.

A while ago I decided to really give our linen closet a makeover. I bought 12 sets of towels. Six are grey, six are white. All the old towels were donated. Instead of buying the matching washcloths I bought a couple dozen simple white washcloths. If you have ever noticed that the towels look better longer than their matching washcloths that's why I did this. I bought all matching grey & white baskets from Target to hold the linens, bath mats etc. One shelf holds all the folded towels. Then I bought 4 grey plastic storage cubes to conceal personal items, first aid, trash bags, etc. It looks so nice and clean, as well as being organized. Other than the 12 sets of towels the storage containers were very reasonably priced. It was kind of a fun project. It's just my husband and I now, and the towels will last a long time. I change out the towels, 2 times a week - one week it's the grey, the next week it's the white ones. I know I'm fussy, but it works for us. Today I am straightening out our foyer closet. About the same time I reorganized the linen closet I also purchased substantial wooden hangers for the foyer, and I rotate the coats and jackets according to the season so the closet never gets overloaded. On the top shelf I put two storage cubes for gloves, scarfs, etc. The out of season garments are stored in garment bags on a chrome rack in the basement.

Cora, Putting a duvet cover on can be simple, just google "easy way to cover a duvet", one person can do it in a couple of minutes. Before I found this method it was a real nightmarre and I usually need help. Try it ... you'll love it!
