Hi, there are no reports that I am aware of that say the box moth/caterpillar eats privet - I have box and privet next to each other and there is no sign of damage to the privet whilst the moths have tried to harm the box (but failed as I have taken action to stop them messing with the hedges).

NZ perspective- I have used Japanese Box,(Buxus Microphylla var) same foliage as traditional box and additional benefit of lovely limey green colour. It seems resistive to all problems and is such a nice colour.Mine is planted around a water feature and requires only twice a year clip by hand.
