When we moved into our current house I just cried. It was dirty, smelly and needed a complete update. It was all we could afford. As we started to decorate, I remembered why we wanted it - huge windows, full of sunlight, big rooms and a south facing garden. Twenty years on we have a beautiful cosy home and a gorgeous lush garden. I can now see the potential in houses and I helped my sister choose her house. She hated it at first as it was grubby with 3 male students living in it, but it had a huge stunning garden and so much space and light. It is now a beautiful home.

Just like Forzaitalia, I bought a wreck and was somewhat overwhelmed when I did move in. It was a neglected ex-rental, literally eye-wateringly filthy, had mice, damp and the extension was falling down! All things I knew when I bought it (and I got a good price as a result!) but that didn't mean the reality wasn't terrifying before the builders moved in! We're 85% of the way through a total revamp -new extension, underfloor heating, internal wall insulation... - and while I'm very glad the end is in sight,, I have learned an awful lot along the way and (most of the time) I don't have any regrets!

The thing is, I didn't intend to buy a doer-upper. The agent had strict instructions: a flat, good decorative order and nothing too run down. After losing out on a couple of places, he said he wanted me to see a property that didn't tick any of these boxes because he just "had a feeling". It was so dirty I was coughing all the way round, and it REALLY stank but, for some reason, it was love at first sight! <3 my teenytinyhouse!
