Metallic accents and decorations in gold, silver and copper have also been a popular part of Indian palaces and grand, traditional homes. Now, as the throwback trend is gaining momentum, metals are making their way back into modern interiors once again. It’s undeniable – these shiny elements can bring large doses of glamour to any space. Here’s how you too can welcome the sheen of metals into your home through simple yet effective ways.
1. Use metals as accessories
A large gold, silver or copper decorative object can add just the right amount of flair to your home without making it look too blingy. See how The Purple Turtles has created an opulent gold-hued lighting piece that adds to the grandeur of this expansive reception room.

In smaller spaces, metals can serve a dual purpose – they can look decorative and can also bounce light around the room, making the area look bright and embellished.
In this small, all-white living room, the gold lights, subtle metallic-accented cushion covers and the gold accessories on the tables add sparkle without looking too overdone.

Silver is used aplenty in this living room, mixed with lots of mirrors to create a space-enhancing illusion. A silver-framed mirror above the mantel, a chandelier (reflected in the mirror), the lamp in front of the wall panels, a contemporary table with silver accessories, all create a bright, light-reflecting interior. The purple velvet sofa and carpet add a touch of colour and regality to the crisp decor.
2. Employ metals as wall and ceiling accents
Metallic painted accents set a glamorous stage and can team beautifully with accessories. In this living room, the glossy ceiling with gold motifs blends seamlessly with the starburst gold light, the gold-framed folding screens and the other metallic accessories.

Gold tiles in between the beige blocks of the accent wall lend specks of sparkle in the room. The neutral sofas and the black granite flooring all come together to create a balanced colour palette.
Another way of incorporating metallic colours in the living room is by painting the backdrops of open shelves and cupboards, as seen in this image. See how the aged copper shade has given this tall wooden bookcase depth and beauty. A spray paint job on shelving units can give similar results.
3. Choose glowing fabrics
For bringing in a glamorous look, consider fabrics with a metallic sheen. You could choose from glistening silver-, gold- and copper-coloured velvet or glazed linen. In this space, the metallic-hued fabrics in gold and silver used on the drapes and sofas create a luxurious feel.

4. Through furniture with a metallic finish
Other than accessories and accents, metallics can be introduced through furniture too. See how the gold-finished pieces here are so confidently used around the room. The legs of the centre tables and side sofa add shimmer and glamour to the otherwise neutral palette of the room.

A single, intricately patterned gold centre table is enough to add a big dose of the glamour quotient to the light-filled white room. The delicate metallic lamp gently extends the sheen.
