It only takes a drop of hot pink to make a big, dramatic statement, especially if the room is monochromatic or light and plain. If you want an exuberant colour to cut through and shake up your decor, this is the one. But there’s a knack to harnessing its power. Here are a few ways to feel pretty in hot pink without going over the top.
Use smaller pieces in smaller spaces
In this tiny study the hot pink desk lamp alone is enough to lighten the mood. It also ties in with parts of the rug below so it doesn’t look completely out of place.

Create a focal point
This layout of this bathroom is so sleek and spacious, but all eyes will be on the wall of hot pink mosaic tiles with the pink towels. Although small in comparison to the rest of the room, this feature is bold enough to create a striking colour theme, which the owners can build on with accessories.

Make a kids’ room sing
Pink is a fun colour for a kids’ room and a strong shade has longevity which should serve them well until they become teenagers. This room shows how the colour can be used in a more grown-up fashion: a sophisticated pairing of bed linen and wallpaper.

Soften with another colour
Hot pink might be too intense for some people in the bedroom, especially when it’s time to doze off. But you can still create a relaxed environment without abandoning your new scheme. This design shows how layers of white can soften pink’s vibrancy; notice how the curtains look far less overbearing and more pleasant as sunlight seeps through.

As an Australian living in London I wanted a bright tropical duvet cover so when I saw this one I fell in love ... it makes me smile whenever I go into the the room! Bright greens really give the pink zing ans they are opposite on the colour wheel. I like bold bright colours, it helps counter the dull grey light over here.
I wouldn't put it in the kitchen, it's not really a 'food' colour ... I would say orange and red are better for the kitchen.
The only other room that has pink in it is my living room ... again, with contrasting colours to give it zing. I have a lime green linen chair, you can see on the far left which brightens the room. It's quite difficult to get that clear bright pink in the UK, they usually add black to the colour to mute it (as is the sofa) as I suspect it sells better here. So if/when I am home in Sydney or in the US I try and pick up what I can, either in fabrics, linens or clothes as the colours are much clearer and brighter. I'm still trying to decide on an appropriate colour for the walls, something subtle and light but that will complement the furnishings and my artwork. As an artist pink tends to pop up in my work too.
