Have been doing this for years and it makes perfect sense. I have gone one step further and don’t have duvet covers anymore. I simply wash the duvets each week and because they are small they wash perfectly. It means I don’t have to change the covers each time and I don’t have to iron them which is a bonus.
I solve the daytime look by using a light quilt, a couple of pillows and a light throw (all washable) over the top which also double as extra warmth in the winter.

pippajohnson, I am assuming you have synthetic duvets? Ours are feather and down and have to be dry cleaned.

Yes we have synthetic and I wash them on a 60 degree wash. In my experience feather duvets wash almost as well. You can get some bunching if not careful to dry them really thoroughly. Feather pillows wash better than synthetic in my experience.
