thanks CK . all around me are having islands and i do feel a bit of a rebel. yes you're right - a peninsular could also be the answer. we've got some designers coming this week and of course they will push islands - they're quite a sale - i must stand firm. i've got a blank canvas - and therefore too much choice. if i had my own way, i'd have a georgian oak dresser base but...........

Suoercooknot - stand firm! Look at loads of images, and curate the ones you really love. Think about layout. Do you like one-wall unit layout, U-shape, galley, square ...? Nail the layout you like first, then you can hang the design-y elements on top. Layout is everything! Good luck!
