I’m late to the party, but this came up as a suggested article. At 11pm last night I cleaned out my closet, and hauled out four large bags of stuff. including two beautiful calf length suede “swing” coats I’ve hoarded for years hoping to be able to get into them. Today I may (or may not) tackle the winter clothes, after I finish gardening and need to come in to the cool. Winter clothes might be the last thing I feel like looking at though. Would sure be nice to get my husband to dump his dozen button downs. He hasn’t touched them since he retired. Might be worth trying the one at a time technique you all suggested to Lin Lin.

This article was to provide some wisdom and leave some pearls that you may or may not wish to take with you. It may not be for everyone, but respectful dialogue is important. I am in the throws after just retiring of conducting a purge and so appreciate the timing and guidance of this article, as well as the different approaches to managing wardrobes.

Sorry to digress but 'Cindy Keppley MacFetrich', what animals that people consume today live a good life and do not have a tortured death? Perhaps a watch of Food Inc. is needed.

I can see why some like a capsule wardrobe though looks to me like a giant bore if all I have to look at every day. The nice classics that were far from cheap sometimes mix with new things. I do purge about once a year and still mostly save classic things such as silk blouses, my shoe collection (I wear them all, Dallas is great for shoes,) jackets and silk/cotton/mohair sweaters. Purging is only for making room for more. The "minimize" message falls on deaf ears, I'm not into guilt.
