When did the Christmas season turn into a time when we all go over the top? I have just turned 70 and remember my childhood Christmas as gifts that had a use. I remember one year, my brother got a bike, and I was SO jealous, because I had received school shoes. This sort of thing went into other areas such as shopping, where the local shop sold loose biscuits. I cringe to think that my generation, and the one following is fully responsible for the sea of plastic in the world's rivers, seas and oceans. So think about having a growing tree, in a pot, and gifts that have a use. Make fun with your food, and decorate with fabric.

My daughter sewed Christmas fabric bunting for decorations as well as fabric bon bons-looked gorgeous and all reusable. So clever and plastic free except for the tiny velcro squares that held the two halves of the bon bons together! All reusable and will be for years to come.
