One Light, 12 Homes: The Jewel-Like Caboche Lamp
Now a contemporary icon, this best-selling lamp diffuses light with well-calculated charm
Launched in 2005, Italian lighting manufacturer Foscarini‘s Caboche collection is considered an icon in lighting design today. Concentric transparent globes made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) project and diffuse the light throughout a space with glimmering effect – much like the cabochon or pearl bracelet that inspired it. It was designed by the award-winning Spanish architect and designer Patricia Urquiola together with Venetian designer Eliana Gerotto (it’s no coincidence that Venice is the heart of gorgeous, globular handblown glass). Much replicated, a genuine Caboche is made of PMMA, not glass, and is therefore lighter and less delicate than it actually looks.
