The 10 Most Popular Bedrooms of 2016
Stylish bedside pendants and custom headboards are among Houzz readers' favorite features this year
Whether it’s adding a dramatic ceiling treatment, angling a bed to take advantage of the view or transforming an attic into a master suite, there have been lots of great bedroom design ideas in photos uploaded to Houzz this year. Here are the 10 most popular bedrooms in 2016, as measured by the number of saves to ideabooks. Tell us in the Comments which one is your favorite.
10. Serene in cream. This Palm Beach, Florida, master bedroom by Dmitry Serba Design boasts beautiful Atlantic Ocean views, while the cream tones offer a soothing neutral backdrop. The tufted upholstered bed is from Nathan Anthony Furniture, and the chandelier is from Troy Lighting.
9. All the white moves. A generous dose of soft white paint creates a refreshing atmosphere in this Massachusetts bedroom. Meanwhile, built-in storage below the window seat and bed and along the wall help turn a tranquil space into an organizational workhorse.
8. Attic makeover. While this Pennsylvania third-floor master suite was part of a newly constructed home, it does provide some great inspiration for homes with underutilized attics. The sloped ceiling follows the contours of the roofline, adding visual interest and a sense of shelter. The adjacent seating area is also a delightful perk.
7. Shagtastic. This Birmingham, Alabama, bedroom features an assortment of popular looks, including walls painted in Agreeable Gray by Sherwin-Williams, a painted wood ceiling, a statement light fixture, neutral bedding from Pottery Barn and a shag area rug that looks luxurious enough to sleep on.
6. Double up your design. If you have the space, consider adding two beds to a guest room. Not only is it an easy way to squeeze in more guests, but it also adds a pleasing symmetry to its design. For this rustically chic bedroom, designer Wendy Berry added faux wood wallpaper from Nobilis to create an accent wall that complements the engineered white oak wood floors.
5. Sophisticated and sweet. Those looking to create a children’s bedroom that can stay stylish for many years may want to turn their attention to this girl’s bedroom in Utah. With its pink and teal color scheme, tufted headboard and ottoman, and built-in bench, it truly balances sweet and sophisticated to a T.
4. Pendant power. This stylish London master bedroom designed by Shanade McAllister-Fisher has a lot of things going for it, including its fresh coat of Farrow & Ball’s Oval Room Blue, but it’s the sculptural pendant light hanging from its cord that really catches the eye. Pendant lights used as bedside lighting is becoming a hot trend.
3. Look up. Since people often spend a fair amount of time on their backs in a bedroom, paying attention to the design of its ceiling is a smart choice. This Orlando master bedroom features a custom stained-wood ceiling treatment and a sculptural chandelier that keeps the attention sky high.
2. Statement headboard. To achieve a beachy atmosphere, the team at The Good Home Interiors & Design created a custom headboard out of shiplap for this Portland, Maine, bedroom. The two arched sconces over the bed are from Pottery Barn, and the walls are covered in Sterling by Benjamin Moore.
1. Alluring angle. This serene master bedroom in South Carolina features a cedar-clad ceiling and a coat of Comfort Gray by Sherwin-Williams on the walls. But most likely it’s the clever positioning of the bed — allowing the homeowners to watch TV and also take in the valley views — that stood out to readers the most.
