Trends: 9 Design and Interior Trend Predictions for 2015
Take a look at these predicted interior trends for 2015 and see whether you agree…
As 2014 comes to a close, it’s time to look into the crystal ball and try to predict which trends and styles will be big in 2015. Some trends have been developing over the past 12 months and look set to shine in the year ahead – copper having one last blaze of glory, for example. Other predictions are brand new: a return to the style maximalism of the 1970s is rumoured to be big, for instance.
However, while it’s fun to look ahead, as always it’s you, the Houzz community, who set the trends, and we look forward to seeing what you post and share with us in 2015. Happy New Year to you all.

A taste of the 1970s
As homeowners become bolder in their decorating tastes, 2015 looks set to usher in a revival of the ultimate maximalist decade – the 1970s. Warm, textured wood cladding, amber glassware and tones of yellow and brown are creeping back into interiors, and the trend looks likely to gain more traction in the year ahead, as homeowners experiment with bold patterns and prints.
We expect this will have a contemporary twist, of course. We aren’t advocating a return to a full 1970s interior decorating style. That’s only for the very brave!

All-over wallpaper
The feature wall is dead, long live the feature wall. The nation’s favourite decorating trend – the single feature wall – looks set to take a back seat in 2015 as homeowners pluck up the courage to make every wall in a room a feature, with all-over wallpaper.

Dark blue walls
We’ve seen this trend develop on Houzz over the past year, so there could well be even more of a move towards inky blue wall shades in 2015. A natural progression from the dark grey and charcoal shades that have dominated in previous years, this tone is softer and warmer and works just as well in a contemporary interior as in a traditional one.

Beautiful light bulbs
Last year saw a multitude of interiors with beautiful statement pendant lights uploaded to Houzz. This year, the trend for statement lighting looks likely to continue, but with an emphasis on oversized light bulbs treated as a work of art in their own right.

Grey kitchens
Any colour as long as it’s grey. That seems to be the overall feeling among the Houzz community when it comes to kitchen colours and trends. 2014 saw a rise in images of soft grey kitchens on Houzz and some of our most popular ideabooks looked at how to incorporate this shade into your home. So we reckon this trend will be even bigger in 2015.

Mix-and-match kitchen units
We’ve seen homeowners getting braver over the past 12 months and 2015 could be the year when many more of us step out of our comfort zone, especially in the kitchen.
Several kitchens have cropped up on Houzz featuring wall and floor cabinets in different materials, or two shades of the same colour, so we predict mix-and match units could be an interesting direction for 2015.

Nostalgia
However, as technology evolves at an increasingly rapid pace and many aspects of life move online, 2015 could be the year that sees homeowners also embrace nostalgia and the traditional comforts of home.
Timeless items, such as ceramic butler’s sinks and roll-top baths, are growing in popularity on Houzz and there seems to be a return to traditional and cosy home elements with a reassuring presence.

Could this be the year that our obsession with all things copper goes out in a blaze of glory? This is a trend that has been going strong for a couple of years now, and while there’s still plenty of life in the craze for warm metallics, we predict that 2015 will see the copper trend hit a peak and morph into an interest in rich gold accessories instead.
