Are these fruit flies? Though they are attracted to fruit not compost I assume. I got rid of mine via online advice using cider vinegar & washing up liquid in a wide necked jar/glass with cling film elastic banded round the top. I punched holes into the film and was astounded with the results. What sort of flies have you got?

Fruit flies would be attracted to the cider vinegar... Not sure about others but worth giving it a go...
