What Houzz contributors are saying:
A stale atmosphereBefore a viewing, ensure your room has been thoroughly aired by flinging open the windows and making the bed up with fresh linen. If you have pets that are allowed in the bedroom, ensure you give the room a good vacuum, too, to get rid of any pet hair and odour. Scented candles and room sprays are good for creating a welcoming atmosphere, but only if they’re used in a bedroom that’s already fresh. Trying to mask a stale atmosphere with scent will only make it twice as bad, so give the room a good airing a couple of hours before visitors are due to arrive.Tell us…What do you do to make your home more appealing to viewers? The whole place will smell goodNot only will your spring-cleaned home look tidy, it will smell amazing, too. Even just opening windows will restore freshness. Try sprinkling some baking soda on upholstery, carpets and even mattresses, leaving it for a while, then vacuuming it off to remove stale odours.
Get freshFling open the windows on the first day, too, to air the rooms and freshen up the whole house. In the evening, light a few scented candles.
Fling open your windowsGrowing up, my parents instilled in me the importance of opening windows on a Sunday morning, no matter what the weather. The cool, fresh air will refresh and invigorate both you and your home.
