Contemporary family garden

Contemporary Garden, Hertfordshire

With all the benefits of working from home, a contemporary office building at the bottom of the garden is an ideal solution. My clients wanted all weather access to their new garden office, socialising areas where they could relax with family and friends at weekends and room for children to play. The brief was for a calm, ordered garden, built-in seating, sleek lines and low maintenance. I’ve given the path a twist to increase the sense of journey to work; the stepping stones take you behind the built-in seating area with fire bowl, under three multi-stem Amelanchier larmarckii trees, then on to the garden office. The trees give height and interest to the middle of the garden, veiling the views both to and from the house. Planting is neatly arranged on each side of the garden to maximise the central space for socialising and family activities. The kitchen and living room doors lead out onto the terrace so family life is fully integrated between the house and garden.
