Dare to bare… bricks (in an industrial property)Bricks and mortar are rough and cold – not a look that immediately comes to mind when you’re designing a cosy living room. Yet using exposed brickwork, especially on one feature wall, has great design merit. The subtle irregularities in texture and colour can really be brought to life with some skilfully placed lighting, such as the low table lamp that casts a warm glow in this warehouse-style flat.

Soften bare brick Bare brick is a staple feature in industrial schemes and is usually paired with equally unadorned windows and minimal soft furnishings. For a warmer take on the trend, combine with floor-sweeping curtains and a relaxed, cushion-filled sofa. Black and burgundy accents and a dark grey column radiator punctuate this otherwise neutral living room.
