A elegant entrance hall and staircase in a beautifully restored Victorian Villa by the Sea in South Devon. Colin Cadle Photography, Photo Styling Jan Cadle

Dark blue hallway. An opening was created between the entrance and sitting-room to brighten the area.

The thread of using Farrow & Ball Railings continues from the hallway and stairs up to the landing. The door frames are painted dark to provide a contrast with the walls. The original doors and dado rail are original Edwardian features.

Panelling painted in Elephants Breath with Skimming Stone above, paint available from Farrow & Ball.

This hallway was a bland white and empty box and now it's sophistication personified! The new herringbone flooring replaced the illogically placed carpet so now it's an easily cleanable surface for muddy boots and muddy paws from the owner's small dogs. The black-painted bannisters cleverly made the room feel bigger by disguising the staircase in the shadows. Not to mention the gorgeous wainscotting that gives the room a traditional feel that fits perfectly with the disguised shaker-style shoe storage under the stairs.

The original wooden arch details in the hallway area have been restored.

Hall with crittall doors leading to staircase and ground floor front room. Wall panelling design by the team at My-Studio.

Here we cut out three panels of the entrance door to implement stained glass panes. They create a link with the original stained glass window details in the adjacent living room.
