Handmade In-Frame Kitchen in Old WhiteCountry Utility Room, Hampshire
This kitchen used an in-frame design with mainly one painted colour, that being the Farrow & Ball Old White. This was accented with natural oak on the island unit pillars and on the bespoke cooker hood canopy. The Island unit features slide away tray storage on one side with tongue and grove panelling most of the way round. All of the Cupboard internals in this kitchen where clad in a Birch veneer.
The main Focus of the kitchen was a Mercury Range Cooker in Blueberry. Above the Mercury cooker was a bespoke hood canopy designed to be at the correct height in a very low ceiling room. The sink and tap where from Franke, the sink being a VBK 720 twin bowl ceramic sink and a Franke Venician tap in chrome.
The whole kitchen was topped of in a beautiful granite called Ivory Fantasy in a 30mm thickness with pencil round edge profile.
What Houzz contributors are saying:
Have a strategyGood planning is essential when creating your new utility room. ‘Invest the time to make sure your ideas will really work to save you money and time, as well as giving you a great look and functionality,’ says Findlater. ‘It is useful to have space either side of the sink on the worktop so baskets of laundry can be kept out of the way while other washing is in progress. Create extra storage by wall-hanging cupboards around 550mm above the worktops. Work out what it is you want stored in the cupboards and design them to suit. ‘A towel rail with plenty of bars is also very useful for drying smaller items, or hanging shirts on.’Edmonds’ top storage tip is to go for full-height cupboards for coat storage and your vacuum cleaner and ironing board, where possible. ‘Think about what you want to store in the space and plan your cupboards accordingly,’ he says. ‘It might be that you would prefer open shelving, so things are easily to hand, or lots of cupboards so everything is out of sight.’ He continues, ‘Don’t forget coat hooks and shoe storage if you plan to double the space as a boot room.’
