We were asked to help transform a cluttered, half-finished common area to an organized, multi-functional homework/play/lounge space for this family of six. They were so pleased with the desk setup for the kids, that we created a similar workspace for their office. In the midst of designing these living areas, they had a leak in their kitchen, so we jumped at the opportunity to give them a brand new one. This project was a true collaboration between owner and designer, as it was done completely remotely.

Kitchen remodeling with extension. We move the wall between the living room and the kitchen. We supported it with Anthony Power beam. After getting the structural and architectural and engineering plan. The style of the cabinets was a shaker white and grey solid wood cabinet with custom-made upper cabinets to fit the design that was made by the designer. We did a custom-made kitchen pantry and a door that matches the color of the island, and we made a custom pantry vent hood. The countertop was from quartzite with a farmhouse sink. We used white backsplash tiles from ceramic (3 by 6) tile with grey grout to match the color combination. We used laminate wood for the ceiling which gives the look of the wood. The flooring was (12 by 24) from porcelain that looks like concrete. Lighting is LED light 6 inches (recessed can lights). The appliance finish was stainless steel, and the overall look was wonderful and very functional and ended with 100% customer satisfaction.

This project was one of my favourites to date. The client had given me complete freedom to design a featured kitchen that was big on functionality, practicality and entertainment as much as it was big in design. The mixture of dark timber grain, high-end appliances, LED lighting and minimalistic lines all came together in this stunning, show-stopping kitchen. As you make your way from the front door to the kitchen, it appears before you like a marble masterpiece. The client's had chosen this beautiful natural Italian marble, so maximum use of the marble was the centrepiece of this project. Once I received the pictures of the selected slabs, I had the idea of using the featured butterfly join as the splashback. I was able to work with the 3D team to show how this will look upon completion, and the results speak for themselves. The 3Ds had made the decisions much clearer and gave the clients confidence in the finishes and design. Every project must not only be aesthetically beautiful but should always be practical and functional for the day to day grind... this one has it all!

This kitchen is an addition to the back of a house built in the early 1900's in downtown Ottawa. The original space was completely demolished and replaced with this bright open kitchen. A large island allows the client to cook and keeps guests close by at the large island. New large French doors were added so that the kitchen now opens directly onto a lovely deck.The new doors also flood the kitchen with light and provide a view of the garden. To give the kitchen a farmhouse feel the cabinets are white, the tile is a classic subway and the counters are a mix of butcher block and white quartz. The clean backdrop allows the client to add colour and personalize the kitchen were her collection of dishes and accessories. This project began with an entire penthouse floor of open raw space which the clients had the opportunity to section off the piece that suited them the best for their needs and desires. As the design firm on the space, LK Design was intricately involved in determining the borders of the space and the way the floor plan would be laid out. Taking advantage of the southwest corner of the floor, we were able to incorporate three large balconies, tremendous views, excellent light and a layout that was open and spacious. There is a large master suite with two large dressing rooms/closets, two additional bedrooms, one and a half additional bathrooms, an office space, hearth room and media room, as well as the large kitchen with oversized island, butler's pantry and large open living room. The clients are not traditional in their taste at all, but going completely modern with simple finishes and furnishings was not their style either. What was produced is a very contemporary space with a lot of visual excitement. Every room has its own distinct aura and yet the whole space flows seamlessly. From the arched cloud structure that floats over the dining room table to the cathedral type ceiling box over the kitchen island to the barrel ceiling in the master bedroom, LK Design created many features that are unique and help define each space. At the same time, the open living space is tied together with stone columns and built-in cabinetry which are repeated throughout that space. Comfort, luxury and beauty were the key factors in selecting furnishings for the clients. The goal was to provide furniture that complimented the space without fighting it.

Shaker style cabinets and raised and recessed panel cabinets offer a more traditional kitchen cabinet look, while flat panel cabinet doors tend to lend more to the modern and contemporary style. However, going for raised or recessed panel work in a striking colour such as dark blue, green or black can still work with contemporary kitchen ideas. White kitchens can give a sleek and clean feel, but remember you may have to do a bit more cleaning of those cupboard doors if you want everything to stay shiny and fresh. Of course, grey kitchens are the neutral colour choice du jour and can be paired with pale and rich shades alike if you want your fitted kitchen cupboards to contrast with your worktop, splashback, floor, or all of the above.
