Mulberry House is situated in Newbury, Berkshire. The clients were keen for the space to function as a social hub, adaptable for entertaining larger groups in addition to everyday family living. It was vital the kitchen married the functionality and practically of young family life, with the warmth of the adjacent snug and dining areas. Stylistically we studied the property's architecture and concluded on a traditional shaker kitchen, with beaded in-frame detailing best suited the space. We worked with the finest bespoke hand-crafted British cabinetry, complete with solid antique brass handles to create a timeless look.

This Chelmsford home underwent a full renovation, with the kitchen reimagined in a new part of the property entirely. Framed by a combination of new and original walls, the space carries a quiet sense of history alongside its fresh new layout, and our Classic In-Frame Shaker kitchen sits beautifully at the centre of it all, proving once again that the heart of the home is exactly where you want to be. Laid out in a solid L-shape with a central island, the kitchen was always the design our client dreamed of, generous in scale and immediately welcoming. The Classic In-Frame style takes a softer approach to Shaker detailing, with a fine beaded edge running around the centre panel and gentle mouldings that add just enough character without ever feeling fussy. It is a style we love working with, ideal for clients who want a touch of considered detail and a kitchen that feels every bit as timeless in ten years as it does the day it is installed. The floor-to-ceiling cabinetry hides two details you would never know were there: a walk-in pantry and a utility room, both concealed seamlessly behind secret doors. It is the kind of clever design that rewards a closer look, doors opening to reveal something truly special tucked behind. The unbroken line gives the whole wall a sense of calm and architecture, letting the cabinetry itself become the feature rather than the openings within it. As the sink area is treated as a symmetrical piece of furniture, it is gently broken up with glass-fronted wall cabinetry that lifts the eye and adds a lighter touch above the run. Stacked neatly one above the other, sleek built-in appliances in black gloss anchor the composition, the dark finish providing a quiet point of contrast against the hand-painted cabinetry. The island sits at the heart of it all, serving as the true multifunctional hub. It is the place to prep, cook and pull up a stool and sit, somewhere the whole family naturally gathers, and the cook stays part of the conversation. Generous in both worktop and storage, the island brings everything within easy reach while keeping the rest of the kitchen feeling open and uncluttered. It is the natural gathering point of the room, designed to work just as hard for everyday family life as it does when the house is full of guests. Sitting tucked into the floor-to-ceiling cabinetry is a Fisher and Paykel stainless steel fridge freezer, the ultimate in cooling and storage and built to handle everything a busy modern kitchen demands. To the right, a Siemens built-in oven and steam oven are stacked neatly one above the other, finished in sleek black gloss that deliberately picks up the moody depth of the Hague Blue cabinetry around them. It was a considered choice from the client, the black gloss letting the appliances disappear quietly into the run rather than competing with the painted finish, while still adding a touch of contemporary polish that keeps the kitchen feeling current alongside its traditional craftsmanship. Over on the island, the Siemens induction hob is surface-mounted into the worktop with a discreet downdraft extractor, keeping the sightlines clean and letting the conversation flow uninterrupted across the room. To complete the elegant sink design is an iconic Shaws sink paired with a Quooker Pro3 Fusion tap and a matching soap dispenser, with the addition of a Yardley Bespoke rinse for that extra layer of everyday function. It is a beautifully composed part of the kitchen, the classic lines of the ceramic sink balanced against the more modern silhouette of the tap, the two sitting comfortably together in a way that feels both timeless and genuinely useful. This is a reminder that even the most everyday parts of a kitchen, the sink, the tap, the washing up, can be made to feel special when the design treats them with proper care. The colour palette is a bold choice, and one that has paid off beautifully. The main runs are hand-painted in Farrow and Ball Hague Blue, a strong, confident blue with real depth, set against an island in Dulux Saddle Brown, a warm, grounded tone full of rich cocoa with subtle charcoal undertones. For the client, it came down to a personal love of both colours, two favourites they had long wanted to bring together in a single space, and the kitchen gave them the perfect opportunity. The two shades play off each other in a way that feels genuinely considered rather than fashionable, with the blue lifting the room and the brown anchoring the centre with warmth. Hendel and Hendel handles in dark brushed brass complete the look, the warmth of the metalwork bridging the two paint colours and tying the whole composition together with quiet confidence. It is the final layer of details that completes the kitchen and brings it to life day to day. Under the sink, a pull-out drawer keeps everything neatly organised and out of sight, while bespoke cutlery inserts mean every utensil has its own considered home. Serving trays and chopping boards have their place too. There is a dedicated spot for the air fryer and everything else that would otherwise clutter the worktops in a pantry cupboard, and discreet LED lighting picks out the work surfaces and highlights the cabinetry after dark, giving the room a warm, atmospheric glow. Anchoring it all are Aurelius Oro quartz worktops, a richly veined surface with warm golden tones that pick up beautifully against the Hague Blue and Saddle Brown cabinetry, the perfect finishing touch to a kitchen thought through to the very last detail. Hidden behind the cabinetry is the walk-in pantry, an impressive reveal that you would never know was there from the kitchen itself. Step inside, and the space opens up to rows of open shelving, the perfect home for ingredients, dry goods, shopping bags as they come through the door and all those less frequently used items that would otherwise crowd a worktop. Everything is on display and easy to find, organised in a way that makes day-to-day cooking simpler and weekly shops effortless to unpack. The utility room is also tucked away behind the cabinetry, a second hidden surprise sitting quietly alongside the pantry. From the kitchen, there is no hint of what lies behind, just the same unbroken run of hand-painted doors, but step through, and there is a fully working practical utility room, somewhere the harder-working side of life can be kept neatly out of view. The everyday mess of laundry and household tasks has its own dedicated space, while the main kitchen stays calm, considered and ready to be enjoyed. This Chelmsford project shows what happens when a brave colour choice meets bespoke, hand-built design. The renovation gave our client the chance to reimagine where the kitchen sat in their home, and the result is a space that genuinely earns its place at the heart of it. Stoneham’s Inscribe range in black oak was used to create a moody aesthetic. The grain of the oak provides a subtle texture and softness to the space. The range is utilised throughout the kitchen in three distinct areas: the main kitchen, the media wall and a bar. The main part of the room contains a large kitchen island with a Caesarstone worktop in Black Tempal and an oak laminate L-shaped breakfast bar, providing a relaxed spot for dining and socialising. Caesarstone’s industrial style Cloudburst Concrete worktops are used to finish the main cabinets with LED lighting underneath to illuminate the black units. This also highlights the obvious contrast between the worktops and cupboards.

We designed a modern classic scheme for Sarah's family that would be practical everyday but also offer a social mood for evening entertaining. We blended smart prussion blue cabinetry and walls for a smart and connected feel. To lift the scheme we included soft white, ivory, warm wood, rustic surfaces and distressed tile patterns. We incorporated their existing dining furniture into a sensible layout, but up-cycled the seat pads with free coffee sacks. Sarah's collection of vintage treasures were used to beautiful effect in a curated wall shelf display. A custom built and locally sourced island created the hub that they had always wanted.

Formica Clementine pairs with Arpa Bianco Nube wall units and a natural oak veneered plywood island. Clementine bench seating, oak Urtil shelving units and internal drawers add a custom hand-built feel to the project. All using IKEA cabinets. Wall units feature invisi-pull doors for a clean, slab front look. The Clementine section includes matching J-Profile handles and edge-banded cover panels. Our client was looking for something different, and the minute he saw the dusky pink kitchen, he immediately loved it. Mike worked with him to design a layout for his kitchen in an apartment within a period manor house. The painted furniture allowed us to curve the end of the kitchen to create a corner sink, which provided extra working space in front of the window above his washing machine. We complemented the furniture with a quartz worktop and splashback. For appliances, he chose a Siemens induction hob, and we added a canopy extractor that created a striking feature. Two integrated fridge freezers and a dishwasher are all hidden away beautifully. The client decorated the room to complement the kitchen and make the most of the high ceilings. A practical redesign of a 16th-century Wealden farmhouse kitchen, planned over twelve years. The new kitchen was moved to a brighter link room overlooking the garden, with a long island, minimal wall cupboards, and a walk-in pantry. Bespoke Period English cabinetry is painted in Farrow & Ball Vert de Terre, with an Everhot range, deep pan drawers, and countertop concertina cupboards. A dresser and open shelving display the owners’ spongeware collection. The adjoining utility, painted in Farrow & Ball New White, includes full-height storage and open shelving for everyday use.

From the moment you enter this historic Much Hadham property, you are surrounded by open countryside, the warmth of a homely feel and craftsmanship that takes centre stage. This bespoke kitchen has been carefully designed and handcrafted to respect the home’s character while elevating how the space is used today. Framed by a striking triangular glazed extension, the kitchen connects seamlessly to the wider open-plan living area, with every element, from hand-built cabinetry and traditional In-Frame construction to hand-applied paint finishes, created specifically for this home. The result is a kitchen that feels considered, authentic, and entirely at ease within its setting. The original kitchen footprint formed the L-shaped section of the room, which the client was keen to retain as one half of the new design, particularly as the AGA was already positioned there, and this was much loved as part of the family’s daily life. As with many period homes, the property did not lend itself to one large open-plan kitchen, so the design focused on creating distinct yet connecting areas within the existing space, allowing each zone to feel purposeful while still flowing naturally together. It came together so beautifully! Each of our bespoke features brings personality and practicality to the space, including a secret door concealed within the cabinetry leading down to the cellar, and a new extension housing a “reading nook”. This approach allowed our Classic In-Frame Shaker style to come into its own across the different parts of the kitchen, and was hand-painted in a palette of colours. The bespoke cabinetry was built In-Frame with plain flat fronts and a central beaded panel, introducing a softer, more traditional aesthetic that complements the property’s age. Each cabinet was handcrafted using traditional In-Frame construction, with solid frames assembled by hand and finished with carefully detailed beaded panels. Our work allows for refined proportions and longevity, while giving the furniture a depth and character that cannot be achieved with mass-produced cabinetry. This style was the perfect choice for a countryside home, bringing a timeless, homely, cottage-inspired feel that sits comfortably within the building’s heritage while still providing the practicality required for modern living. Elements of tongue-and-groove panelling and recessed plinths complete the design’s look. Building on this foundation, our bespoke In-Frame furniture with a softer look continues into the newer part of the kitchen, where the space has been opened up by knocking through the existing wall and extending the living area for a more connected layout. At the centre of this part sits an island where it’s built to form a social space. It sits in front of a single run of cabinetry, providing balance and allowing the island to take prominence. By carrying the In-Frame shaker style throughout, the furniture seamlessly links the original kitchen with the newer space for a cohesive design that feels entirely at home. The finishing details of the kitchen were carefully considered to complement the cabinetry’s character. Hendel & Hendel Greenwich handles in waxed burnished brass were selected throughout, using a mix of knobs and cup handles to bring subtle variation across the furniture. Finishing the cabinetry with a warm metallic tone reinforces the homely, traditional feel of the space. Three colours form the foundation of the kitchen’s design, all from Little Greene, and are hand-painted onto the cabinetry. Invisible Green, a deep green connecting the kitchen to nature and the surrounding countryside. Joanna, a pale taupe with a warm base, offers a beautiful alternative to white and brings softness to the space. Linen Wash, a broken, pared-down natural linen tone, introduces a calm and understated warmth. All cabinetry was hand-painted on site in multiple stages, allowing the finish to settle naturally into the grain and detailing of the furniture. This process creates a softer, more layered appearance that enhances the handcrafted nature of the kitchen and adds to its sense of age and authenticity. Positioned within the newer part of the kitchen, the central island becomes the heart of the space, effortlessly supporting both everyday living and relaxed entertaining. From casual breakfasts to evening gatherings, the island provides seating for four, encouraging the kitchen to be used as a social hub throughout the day. Designed with functionality in mind, the generous worktop offers an expansive preparation area, while the storage below has been carefully considered to balance practicality with character. Beneath the Carrara Misterio quartz worktop, open shelving provides space for baskets, with discreet cupboards tucked below for convenient, everyday storage. Handcrafted solid wood brackets introduce a sense of craftsmanship and add a refined, luxurious detail to the island’s design. These details were designed specifically for this island, reinforcing the furniture-led approach. On one side, a burnished brass towel rail with additional hooks offers a practical yet decorative feature, perfect for hanging linens and baskets. Together, these details give the island a warm, authentic country feel. Wrapped around the central wall in our soft In-Frame beaded Shaker style, a bespoke dresser becomes a standout feature within the kitchen. Designed as an elegant display for the client’s glass collection, the upper cabinets feature glass-fronted doors that add lightness and refinement to the furniture. Below, a combination of drawers and cupboards provides generous storage for dinner-party essentials, balancing beauty with everyday practicality. Dark-stained oak open shelving with tongue-and-groove panelling introduces warmth and texture, echoing the detailing found within the cosy dining corner and reinforcing continuity across the space. Sitting alongside a concealed door leading to the cellar, this piece seamlessly blends craftsmanship and ingenuity. Discreet, well-integrated secret doors such as this are increasingly becoming a staple in modern homes, allowing practical elements to be hidden within beautifully handmade furniture. In this kitchen, the concealed door was designed as part of the furniture from the onset, allowing it to disappear seamlessly into the cabinetry while maintaining the visual rhythm of the In-Frame design. Two sinks were carefully positioned to support the kitchen’s flow. In the original L-shaped area, a Shaw’s of Darwen sink takes pride of place beside the AGA, paired with a Perrin & Rowe Phoenician monobloc tap in aged brass to create a classic, timeless setting. In the newer part of the kitchen, a second Shaw’s of Darwen sink is complemented by a Perrin & Rowe Ionian mixer tap, also in aged brass, providing additional practicality while maintaining consistency across the space. The kitchen brings together existing and new appliances, carefully integrated into bespoke cabinetry to suit how the space is used throughout the year. Our client was keen to retain the electric AGA in Dartmouth Blue, which remains proudly positioned within the original L-shaped section. As the AGA is turned off during the warmer months, a new ILVE Milano 600m oven was introduced within the newer run of cabinetry, ensuring the kitchen remains fully functional year-round while balancing traditional and contemporary cooking solutions. Above the ILVE, a Westin Prime extractor is seamlessly integrated into the in-frame furniture, maintaining the clean, considered aesthetics. Adding to the appliance setup is the Fisher & Paykel integrated fridge-freezer, housed in its own dedicated cabinetry section, thoughtfully wrapped around the wall near the concealed door leading to the cellar. This approach allows each appliance to sit naturally within the furniture layout, reinforcing the sense of cohesion between craftsmanship, functionality, and the home’s character. This cosy area incorporates storage on either side of the bi-fold window and a generous window seat, designed to double as dining bench seating when a large table is needed for family gatherings such as Thanksgiving. The reading nook naturally connects the open-plan living space to the garden beyond, creating a calm and inviting corner. The wide window seat draws you towards the light, offering uninterrupted views across the generous grounds and the surrounding English countryside. The open shelving within the nook is set against dark-stained oak and tongue-and-groove panelling, with matching base shelves, introducing that much-loved warmth and texture. Every element within this kitchen has been carefully designed and crafted to suit the way the clients live, from hidden doors and tailored storage to handcrafted details and considered layout. This is what truly bespoke design is about: handcrafted furniture, designed from the inside out, shaped around the home, the people who live there, and the way the space is used every day.
